How much has Ryan Giles' valuation increased this year?

current manager does not want to sell archer or ramsay, he rates them highly, gerrard didnt want to sell archer when we bid for him, he wanted to see if he was someone he could use.

never get them 3 for 20m, be lucky if one of them is actually for sale, and if it is then its giles
i’ve set my price lol

there is a huge leap from championship to the premier league and none of them are proven. although they are doing really well here the club, team and management are set up perfectly for them to flourish. it hadn’t happened for them elsewhere and certainly not in the premier league.

£9m, £7m are BIG transfers and I think folks can sometimes get carried away with the fees..

I don’t think we’ll have that much to spend if we go up even though money will eventually be available. that mix of value for money, prem quality, low risk and potential resale is the golden formula that ever club is looking for.

I’d expect much the same as the last time we went up as far as positional priorities and expenditure. Danksy has struck hold for us in the championship.. hopeful we can do the same in the prem.

The revamped recruitment team have done very well recently. They will have an array of possible targets that we know nothing about. The 3 guys being discussed are a joy to watch, are doing very well with the coaching and seem to enjoy playing for San Miguel so may wish to continue their stay if the deal is right, but I look forward to seeing what other options appear over the horizon.

Not too concerned to be honest - yes I'd like to keep him if poss but I'm pretty sure we'll have a number in mind and if Wolves want more we'll have a list of around 15-20 other LBs to pick from.

Footballer values don’t work the same way they used to as no Premier League side has to sell. The best way to think about it is what he is worth to us. In the Championship he’d certain be worth another loan, but I doubt he’d be worth more than £2 million of a £8m budget. To a premier league team he might be worth triple that, but could you find an alternative of similar quality for £6m or so? Probably if your looking in the right places.
what changed and when to how it works lol

Free agent on £40k a week is gonna cost £6m with a standard 3 year deal.

I love the guy but don’t think he’s worth £6m

Of course his value had gone up in terms of him proving his ability this season, plus he's doing at from full back, with improving defending, so he's a more attractive signing than he was in the summer.

But he's also run another year of his contract down, which would make his fee a little cheaper.

I cant see him getting in the Villa side and they, like any club in the EPL, need to balance the books and comply with FFP.

He's only worth what someone is willing to pay.

To be fair his delivery into the box has been phenomenal all season, but I think defensively he's also improved.
Sadly this feels like we're victims of our own success in that if we get promoted his valuation will rise beyond what we can afford.
This hes a v poor defender but with a v good delivery

They targeted him with the ball in behind him all night and it worked.

They looked a solid championship team, in a very typical championship way.

We never really got going did we, a draw was a fair result I think.

And that’s why his value should not of gone up much, great delivery but very little defensive nous, his positional play tonight was shocking, and fair play to Stoke they targeted him most of the night.
He is not a premiership defender, that’s why he has never played for Wolves.

I think he s very replaceable....he is a poor defender and often hits the defender with his crosses. He was very poor last night, he always gives me the impression he is in second gear

I'm still unsure how to feel about Giles. I still feel the positives outweigh the negatives, especially what he contributes in terms of assists.

Defensively though, still big question marks for me. They definitely targeting him last night and he kept getting caught out by the cross-field ball over the top.

It also frustrates me that he rarely tries to beat his man. A few times last night he had the chance to go at his man one on one and went for the easy option instead.

I think he’s brilliant me. Had a bad night last night mind but as others have said on other threads most of the lads did. There’s a lot more positives than there is negatives.

All valid points.

Outstanding delivery but a bit of a one trick pony. Stand and deliver. He rarely tries to go past a man.

Defensively not good enough. We've been playing well enough this year that the positives definitely outweigh the negatives and if we did fail to go up, I'd be looking at keeping him for next season. He has the most assists in the league so that does show the quality he does possess. There's been games where he has created 5 or 6 really, really good chances. Akpom wouldn't have the amount of goals he has without Giles.

If we go up, he would be hopeless. We'd be up against it most weeks and his defensive frailties would kill us. The only way I could see it working for him in the premier league would be if we were to go back to 3 at the back with wing backs but even then he still left us exposed under Wilder.

I think Giles is very good in their final third. His delivery is typically very good.
He is defensively really poor, but has improved, until last night where he was back to square one.
He is obviously very good in the Championship as a mainstay and assist machine in a promotion chasing side.
Whether he can improved enough defensively to operate in his own third in the PL is the big mystery.
