How good are you at football?

Gosh it was ages ago now but if he played in 90-91 I probably did. I used to play for the reserves and was drafted in a couple of times due to injuries etc. I wasn't very confident in my ability so I can't say I excelled when given the chance.
I have a few Boro teamsheets from after liquidation & a few Synners players played for the Boro reserves

Now I’m pretty woeful, but played to a reasonable level in the past and to probably the best level I could have played at, albeit mostly in the wrong position.

I was offered a YTS at Torquay as a 16 year old but I knew then I was nowhere near good enough to make it, Nicky Mohan taught me that lesson in a schoolboy game, so stuck to local leagues, played a bit of NL1 but never really established myself in a side or a position, but had the odd memorable moment.

Dont knock yourself, you played at a good level

Not on my 'Trialist' team but we played against Downing, Wheater, Johnson, Cattermole, etc... basically the Youth FA Cup Winners team

I wouldn't say they were 'miles better' technically, just A LOT fitter and stronger, but I am around a few years younger - not that it's an excuse because you could be 18 and making a debut playing against 30+ year old men in the Premier League

EDIT: Don't think Downing or Johnson were in the FA Youth team, but they played against me

Best player on the day was Jason Kennedy - unreal, head and shoulders above Cattermole, Downing, etc at that age - went on to play for Carlisle and Rochdale I think

I was ok tbf. A wholehearted centre half (dirty)
Converted to a big lump of a striker and scored my fair share

At the tender age of 62 still a better bet than Gestede

I was captain of my semi-rural primary school team (it was a small school) and Cubs team, and off the back of it I had a trial match at Darlo when Big Mal was scouting. Fair to say I didn't remotely stand out as a no-nonsense central defender.

Once I got to big school, I wasn't as confident in the air against the hard knocks from Stockton town centre, so I became a goal-hanging striker in the mould of my hero, Bernie Slaven. I didn't play to any significant level (yes I was pretty rubbish) and was better at cricket (and not brilliant at that either).

In adult life, I remained a prolific five a side goalhanger.....err I mean scorer.... much to the malaise of my peers who took it far too seriously and wanted me to 'work harder' (yawn). I then got bored of playing and got into squash, cycling and now boxing.

Being able to ride a bike fast and defend myself (all at once is needed in some Manchester suburbs) is way more useful to me now, though football remains my first love.

Played in the Stockton and District League and Teeside league 1976-85 on a Saturday and played in all 4 divisions of the Teesborough 1975-89.
Had a decent left foot ,quite fast and a bit of a goalscorer until I was converted to a left back by board favourite Keith Lamb.

Excuse me!!! I was the stalwart at the back for the legendary 5 a side team that was shattered dreams!!

Sledgehammer of a left foot. Scored some Emersonesque goals in my team

Have always loved football - Started at GK until about 15, then left back15-20, moved to left midfield and striker, my club now trying to put me at left back but I’m still convinced I have the pace for left midfield. Have been playing vets football for the last six years - broke my foot and three ribs amongst other things in the last six seasons but I keep going back for more. I just love it, I don’t care what level I still get that same buzz the second the whistle goes! I’ll play for as long as I can compete!(and probably a few seasons after that)

Had to move into a Neil Bausor role after pulling off the coup of my mid season transfer. The move that shocked the world of Redcar Leisure Centre

5 a side specialist. My team was the first to go through a season with a 100% record at the new (at the time) powerleague in Leeds (in fairness there were only two divisions, but it was the top one). I'm nowt special in truth but I work hard, know how to defend and my passing is pretty accurate. A couple of players like that, good keeper and a goalscorer and you've a good 5 a side team.

11 a side I'm a headless chicken 🐔

Yeah. Ended up in goal due to fitness issues. Owner/Cheif Exec/Manager/Goalie

Hewie, was that when Barney Malone was playing?
Good friend of mine, at school & since, excellent footballer, as we're his brothers, particularly his youngest

I’ve played a few games with a few more against Barney, he was an excellent player, hard as nails but good on the ball and his long throws were a real weapon.
