How did Gilbert do when he came on?

He looked like Hayden Hackney.
That's not to say he played like him. He didn't see that much of the ball.

I really liked the look of him actually. Not massively involved but (I know it's early days) but has a nice touch good balance and seemingly better decision making than a couple of the other new attacking signings.

Him and Hackney being on the pitch at the same time was also amusing from a distance as just when it seemed Hackney couldn't cover any more ground a clone came on further forward.

Got a handful of minutes in a cup game against lower league opposition when the game was already won. It's fairly clear that he is currently nowhere near the 1st team. When signing him, much was made of his form for Brentford reserve team, but if we are not going to use him then he needs loaning out. Wikipedia says he has 8 league appearances in his career, which at the age of 22 is not great.

That didn’t really answer the question

I'm still very unsure what will happen with Gilbert

I wonder if we were expecting him to be closer to the first team squad, or was it always anticipated he will need perhaps this season to bed in get up to speed to potential first team football.

Couple of nice touches including a lovely back heel that nearly set a shooting opportunity up for McNair (I think). Gave the ball away cheaply on one occasion but showed good pace and desire to get back and win the ball back.
Don't see him coming in and transforming the team but if we can get to the stage where we are comfortably ahead in games it would be nice to get him on and get some experience. Unfortunately the same can be said for Rogers and Silvera and I think he is behind those two in the pecking order so I can't see him getting many minutes at the moment.

To be honest me and my friend didnt even notice he was brought on until about the 80th minute. Like some have already said, he looks like Hackney but taller. When i did realise he was on, he put himself about and tried to get involved but the game was pretty much done by this point and we were just going through the motions!

What @anth25 said really. I didn't watch him and think he should be pushing for a place in the team but he didn't look out of place. Carrick had his harm around him when he was talking to him before he came on and they clearly think he has talent. It does seem a bit of a strange signing if he can't make our regular 20-man matchday squad though.

Signings like Gilbert, and he's not alone amongst those who came through the door in the summer, need to be viewed in terms of value.

Transfermarkt suggests £100k transfer fee Boro>Brentford. That really isn't a significant amount, even at Championship level.

If we can develop him, and I assume the recruitment/coaching team feel we can, we'll look to increase his value and resell. Whether he does that with our squad or on loan elsewhere is moot really.

It is a gamble, but we need to take gambles in my opinion. His salary won't be huge, even if we could recoup his transfer free + 50% of his salary in a couple of seasons it's not a bad thing.

Alternatively, he progresses further and we sell for a significant profit.

He was anonymous last night, but it was a game already won.
Far too early to have an opinion on the lad yet.
Silvera on the other hand...

Sounds like a classic self-fulfilling prophecy.

The compensation fee was reportedly £600,000, rising to £1m.
The fees on Transfermarkt are never right.

Yesterday was his first competitive appearance for us in the 11th game.

Part of that will be because Carrick clearly does not like making substitutions unless he absolutely has to, but we're unlikely to even get that fee back if he's not playing.
