How can someone be so cruel?

If you are feeding a cat that isn't yours because of whatever reasons you've justified it to yourself then be prepared to also split the vet bills. Cats can decide to move but they don't leave a home that is feeding them for one that isn't. If they are moving home it is because someone else is feeding them and it's basically stealing. You don't know what situation the cat is in. It could need special food if it has a medical condition and it also makes it impossible for the real owners to know how much they are eating and stop them getting overweight (and therefore ill).

If you know the owners and you have spoken to them and they have said it is ok then that is different but in most circumstances like this it is just someone feeding a cat because they think it is being underfed/mistreated when it isn't. Cat's are clever and if they are getting fed outside of their home they will seek it out and they will act as if they haven't eaten all week but it's all an act.
Exactly Nano. Our cat is diabetic and we have to monitor what she eats. She is a master manipulator though and often tries to get me to feed her when I get in from work even though she's already had her evening meat.

They have the cold eyes of a great white shark and would happily eat their owners if the cat was much bigger or the owner much smaller.

Doesn't stop people from loving their cats though and getting very attached to them.

Having owned a cat in the past, I think it would be best described nowadays as a ‘toxic relationship’.

I was sitting out the back earlier having a coffee when the ginger Tom who lives out the back dropped into the garden. He normally comes over for a stroke but today he plonked himself in the middle of the lawn, dug a hole and had a crap in it before burying it.

I wasn't too chipper.

I don't know what my cat would do if we moved. I think he'd prefer to stay!

The old curmudgeon has been on strike since we got a dog a few years ago and moved into the greenhouse, then claimed squatter's rights with my next door neighbour who thankfully loves animals and likes the company.

I couldn't imagine just waltzing off and intentionally leaving the cat, though. Very strange.

No one “owns” a cat - they just tolerate you when it suits them. That’s why dogs are so much better - you get a heroes reception every time you come home 🥳

I moved from Norfolk to my current house back in the North East a few years back. The Mrs had physically viewed the house but I had only seen it virtually.

I got quite a shock when I found a a pond full of massive koi carp out the back. No instructions or notice from the sellers that they would come with the house.

I get they didn’t likely have a pond where they moved to but the fish I’ve now found out are literally worth thousands and could have easily been sold. All a bit odd.

We adopted this cat last weekend. I won't go into detail as it wouldn't be very nice to say and not really my place. The people we got him off are very good friends with my sister in law and they had some very tragic and life changing news so couldn't really have the cat anymore so wanted a good loving family home for him and we could offer the loving family home for him and help them out as well by giving him a good home and still being able to send photos of him to them, he really was well looked after and loved by the former owners which made it even sadder that they had to re-home him by absolutely no fault of there own.
He is a full pedigree British short hair and is my new best mate.
