House Of Commons Bars - drink, drink, drink

Apparently you can still smoke in the bars in parliament aswell. Don't believe it's true mind.

I have said it before and will it repeat again the lack of PR own goals that this government have committed is unprecedented and gives no confidence in competence, an issue like this could and should have been be easily avoided through common sense, if I was of a cynical nature one might think they allow matters like this to occur to keep things of greater importance off the front pages and news bulletins.

Exactly. The spin on this is already starting, it is " The Government were not responsible for making the original decision to not close the bars at 10pm"

They're refusing to take any responsibility for all the other farcical balls-ups in this (and all their other) schitshows, so at least they can say they're being consistent.

So its now official

‘this lot couldn’t even organise a psis up in a brewery’

Still not following the same rules as the rest of us.

All they've said is that they'll stop serving alcohol at 10pm. All other bars in England have to stop serving at least 20 minutes in advance of then and have the premises closed by 10pm.

I suspect that's the wording rather than them extending the hours just for them.

Besides which, if they're still serving food then they'd be OK to stay open beyond 10pm, without selling booze ?

I agree it could just be the wording, but the quote from the Parliamentary spokesperson was "Alcohol will not be served anywhere on the parliamentary estate after 10pm". The Daily Mirror has also added that "it is unclear whether MPs will be able to continue drinking after 10pm if they have bought a round before the cut-off point".

On the selling food after 10pm point, all restaurants and cafes have to close by then, so it's actually another example of different rules for MPs from the rest of us.

Everyone has a bar in their workplace these days don't they?

My first job out of university was for Scottish and Newcastle and we had a bar in pretty much every office I visited, although I was led to believe they were well past their "heyday" due to the stricter drink driving measures.

In Silicon Valley / San Francisco, and other tech hubs, there is a bar in most offices, with the size / quality varying dependent on how established the company is. If you didn't then you'd struggle to attract talent in such a competitive hiring landscape, where people will literally choose a job based on who has the best basketball court or snacks in the office.

Even my office in London (management consultants) have beer & wine fridge's on every floor and you'll often see people on a afternoon sat with a beer whilst they're working.

I must admit I miss my meetings at the Heineken offices in London.
Their bar was open all day and as long as you wanted in the evening.
Always needed an overnight after those.
