Houchen responds to Truss plan to cut public sector pay outside London

He asked for a ' U' turn, he got one pretty quickly. Don't know why he is so unpopular locally.
You may be surprised about this one but he didn't actually get the U-turn done himself though the Gazette and Echo will portray it as such. There's a pretty good chance that he would support it too.

He gets stick for his deception, the Tories have absolutely no interest in 'levelling up', it's as clear as day. Philosophically they're opposed to it, it's what the party is all about.

Oh, and he'll jump on any success and claim it as his own. Open your eyes

I think this was just an easy way to distance himself from such a policy that would impact his area, let's not forget that most our local tories all backed Boris as the right man for the job and told us he got the big decisions right, right up to the end when some broke ranks out of self preservation.

They'll do the same with Truss, she's not PM yet. Having said that, self preservation is going to be at the forefront for the next couple of years as the Tory Party rips itself to shreds.

Her 'plan' wasn't just about the public sector, it spoke of 'distortions in the labour market'. In other words reduction in public sector pay would see reductions in the private sector in the same area. Less money into the local economy, best people leaving for higher pay elsewhere, increased difficulty in attracting new businesses to the area ....... the list goes on. Still at least it confirms that 'levelling up' is a complete and utter fantasy.

Truss' conversion from a northern, lib dem, remain supporter to a hard right, London centric Brexit ra Ra is all the alarm bells anyone should need.😐
