Hospitality Fights Back

Prices are going to have to lift very shortly due to fuel rocketing. The amount they move by could have a significant effect with many feeling the pinch. It may not effect the wealthier parts of Teesside but I can see pubs and social clubs coming under pressure.

One of my poorly run locals hasn't had a chef for a year, the menu wasn't demanding much experience either, deep fat fryer, oven and microwave fayre, it's walloped the pub hard though.

Loads of places after chefs though. Look on Indeed. Hundreds of openings just in the TS area alone for all different levels of shifts.

I know a lad who was actually paid after doing a trial shift of two hours the other day. Paid more than the hourly rate advertised too.

October/November lull is normal in our industry too. January is usually quiet too but our January's seem to tick over quite nicely compared to other places. Probably a mixture of a great menu, easy access location and a well populated village.
I am delighted it was a great weekend for you Randy and hope you and your Trade get the lift they deserve so much.
Good luck (y)

I was in Seahouses on Saturday and all the eating houses were full during lunchtime and ques outside the chip shops. Plenty of people sat on the bank overlooking the harbour eating fish & chips.

Also noticed every other shop & restaurant was looking for staff of some description.

Randy - I hope your luck has finally changed, you certainly deserve it mate. (y)

Not being able to go out has to a degree allowed people to understand where they missed going. Chances are they'll support those places over the run of the mil ones.
To be honest some of the places we visit I know have struggled to make it through the pandemic but I think they're better places now than they were before.
Good luck to everyone involved in hospitality, we'd starve if we had to eat at home 7 days a week (although I probably wouldn't waste away).

VAT going back up to 20% from 12.5% on hospitality from 1st April...

Do you think that might hit the pubs and restaurants @Randy? It's not what businesses or customers need right now I'd imagine!

Probably, menu prices will more than likely reflect this.
You can usually gauge what's happening by what the big boys do.

Wetherspoons introduced their new menu this week and they've put some prices up, outside of their meal deal offers.

Paper prices are about to go through the roof, so if you use any paper products, that will be a huge change. Some grades are going up by 75%.

👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

A great weekend overall for both sites and the village as a whole. Mother's Day has turned into Mother's Weekend for the restaurant businesses. We were rammed full all day Saturday and obviously Sunday too. People booking for Saturday as they've missed the boat for Sunday lunch. We've served 500 people over those two days.

Well needed and a great boost for the industry.

People aren't allowed to do nice things. Only survive.

Good news Randy, really pleased for you. The more money that can be re-circulated locally the better for the local economies.
Cheers mate.
We are still on the up and up, busier every week (regardless to what some on here may think).

Easter holidays coming up and a new beer garden getting built in time for the summer here too will hopefully see that trend of been busy continue.

That's the new Tory narrative isn't it? Look at the poors: we've stolen all their money and made sure they can barely afford to heat their homes, but they have the cheek to have a TV and wear shoes. So they are to blame
