Never watched it, the Mrs is horse mad and wanted me to take her last year but was stuck working and if it wasn’t cancelled this year no doubt I would of been dragged along this month.

We're talking 70s and 80s here aren't we Lemmy?
It was a flagship sports programme for the BBC which I could stay up late for if I'd been a good lad.
I don't know why a poor family living on a council estate in the North East would enjoy something like this but we all did.

Didn't they have it just before the 1970 FA Cup final, which meant Chelsea and Leeds were playing on a surface full of holes covered in sawdust, sand and bits of hay. Not that it stopped both of them trying to kill each other :)

I went to my first ever HOYS in 1971, I loved show jumping as a kid. I loved the horse Stroller 😍 Marion Mould always rode it

LOVED IT! I'm seeing you in a different light. Bloody hated the thing, it wiped everything off the telly for nights. I'm pretty sure Sportsnight used to get canned when it was on.

Only bits I remember, Harvey Smith's "V" sign (no idea why he did it) and that thing with an incredibly high wall. Bit boring otherwise.

I was also from a council estate and use to watch the Horse of the Year Show every year. The names and horses mentioned above brought back great memories. Am I right in saying it was on over a week?

They use to be a huge show jumping event on Eston Rec' in the 70's.

A few year back I was staying in Hardelot, France and there was what seemed a professional show jumping event on. We spent the full day watching it and cheering a bloke on who had the reddest wine nose you have ever seen. We nicknamed him 'The Major' and still talk about him.

Tend to watch the show jumping when I go to the Great Yorkshire Show.
