Honda Pull Out of F1

I can't see Mercedes selling RB an engine so yes a tail between the legs approach to Renault seems likely.

This what happens if you're not a car manufacturer - Red Bull have done well.... but it's always a 'big boys' game - same as Williams, HAAS, etc

If you fancy throwing away money. Mercedes don't need another star driver they already have the GOAT.

Shame about Honda but at least RB have a full year to come up with a powerplant.
That's assuming Lewis stays at Mercedes and doesn't follow Toto to Aston Martin for 2022.

Not a chance anyone remotely competitive will get that second merc seat while Hamilton is still racing after Rosberg and 2016

Randy is right I think Hamilton will leave soon. Once Toto goes, and with the head off Merc HPP already off it'll be a changing of the guard and hard to see how they can keep their current high standards.

There a few manufacturers out there who probably could develop an F1 engine: BMW, Lamborghini, Porsche but I doubt any of them would have the desire to in the current climate, especially as two of them are VAG and they seem to be more concerned about electric racing.

Which means they are only likely to go back to Renualt. Which would be a bit embarrassing for them

Appendix 9 of the FIA sporting regulations obliges the manufacturer with the fewest partner teams to supply a competitor that has no alternatives. From next year, Mercedes will have four teams and Ferrari three, while currently Renault’s only commitment is to its rebranded works Alpine outfit.

Abiteboul said that the French manufacturer has not heard from Red Bull since today’s announcement but is ready to fulfil the FIA’s obligation to supply should it arise.

“I can confirm there was absolutely no conversation to this point,” he told Motorsport.com. “Being in the sport we are well aware of the regulation, and we have every intent to comply with the regulation and with our obligations.

I think the F1 ones are the most efficient ICE ever made aren't they?
Whatever it is Honda decided that they needed to commit resources to researching better green energy solutions that are commercially viable. They said that they have to focus on how best to invest in the green future.

Given the dominance of Japanese cars in the world sales market (11 of the top 18 selling models worldwide last year were Japanese) and the stranglehold that Japanese bikes have had in recent World Super Bikes championships it’s always surprised me the lack of a Japanese Formula 1 constructor dynasty, I know Honda and Toyota have both raced teams in the past but neither has had longevity and it’s 2009 since the last Japanese (Toyota) constructor raced a car.

Also one of the most expensive ever made!

Indy is relatively bargain basement stuff

IIRC Porsche had an F1 engine ready to go for 2022 regs but are undecided whether to commit or may have already binned it? Lambourghini are owned by VAG so they are not going to be developing anything that expensive unless it is a group thing with a Lambo badge on it.
