For what reason?

If its for energy saving (they use very little power) then a simple smart plug or mechanical lime switch would probably work.

If its to restrict access, most have a time schedule function built into the settings, you will likely be able to access by going onto the router admin page, usually at something like 192.168.1.1/admin

yeah to restrict access mate. I have checked on the ip address admin and couldn't see a timer section with virgin. noticed whilst looking that BT/sky do have an option for this tho but not VM. cheers

As said above energy use will be negligible

You can use a timer socket but they can cause more problems than it's worth

If this is for kids use you'd be better off installing some software to manage times or getting a router that allows you to control it

It does seem fairly draconian though and kids will rapidly find ways around it e.g data sims, depending on their age
Thats a good video thanks for sharing. will give it a trial tonight I never noticed that section when have a gander earlier. Its purely to make sure the kids don't get back online after bed time during school nights haha

If its apple devices only my wife restricts my daughters ipad useage from her iphone.

Setup Screen Time to manage how your children use their Apple devices.

A data sim isn't going to help my son (11 years old) watch Netflix on his TV or get online with his PC/Xbox over WIFI.

I can't wait to unleash this when I get home tonight! 😂
i think you'd be surprised at what some 11 year olds can do and get their hands on quite easily. It's not difficult to create a hotspot.

I was writing code in basic when I was 11, the steps to get a data sim into a device would be literally childsplay 😂 like glover said you're better off with device specific control - many TVs have family controls built in and most phones / tablets have something like it. Xbox has family controls built in I believe.

Luckily he doesn't know about hotspots - yet!

I was doing BASIC on my ZX81 when I was 11, back in the day .

As long as you don't the router off all together.
Your provider will think there is something wrong with the line if you do and restrict the speed until the "problem" is resolved.

routers are not meant to be shut down from the mains. Thats like returning the needle on a record player without lifting it.
Your supposed to shut down from routers via their operating system. I highly recommend not to power off from the mains. Either restrict Internet access via the router or via software on the end device like the ipad
