Hmmmm!😜 Very interesting article about 'Boro's problem's in midfield!

Morning Mart.
He also had Leadbitter, Friend and Ayala(y)
Yes, agreed he inherited a real mixed bag. He had a few kernels of quality surrounded by dross and perenial injured players. Is there truly anyone from the Mowbray era that goes down as a club legend? I mean Friend and Leadbitter mainly played and played their best footy after Mogga left, not while he was here.

He was more a messiah than a naughty boy.
Tony found some gems.
We really were in the sticky stuff at the time.
It is what it is.

FYI here is the team from Mowbrays last game, the idea that he left us in a great position with a strong team is bluntly debunked by this line up:

Steele
Hoyte Bikey Hines Friend
Haroun Grant McEchrean
Ledesma
McDonald Jutkiewitz

Subs: Leutwiler, Thomson, Bailey, Smallwood, Emnes, L Williams, Ish Miller

That is a horrific team and bench, bar Friend, Grant, and maybe Jutkiewitz if 100% fit. 6 of that team and 5 of that bench have never been championship quality.

I have never bought the concept that Mogga left us in a great position for Karanka to reap the benefits of, if he wasn't a local playing legend, he would be slaughtered.

Mowbray's last game:

-------------Steele--------------
Richardson--Hines--Gibson--Friend
------Whitehead--Leadbitter------
--Kamara--Butterfield--Adomah----
-----------Jutkiewitz------------

Williams, Varga, Emnes, Dimi, Carayol, Parnaby, Smallwood (Ayala)

Woodgate's last game:

----------Stojanovic--------
Howson--Shotton--Fry--Friend
---------McNair--Clayton----
-----Nmecha--Wing--Coulson--
------------Gestede---------

Tavernier, Assombalonga, Fletcher, Morrison, Roberts, Johnson, Saville, Spence, Pears

I'll take Bola, Dijksteel & Browne out of the trashbin for you just to even up the numbers (even if they are all injured at the mo)

I would say the the likes of Whitehead, Butterfield, Jutkeiwitz, Varga and Carayol played a bigger part in Karanka's teams than Clayton, Wing, Gestede, Shotton and Coulson did for Warnock.. we could argue different circumstances etc etc etc. But the facts still remain 8 games does not make a season, a season isn't played over a calendar year and Warnock's record with boro is nigh on identical with Karanka's (given that he also had to do Mowbray's job at the drop of a hat)

This season 2021/22 with Warnock is comparable with Karanka's 2014/15 season in which he was better funded and had a higher number of quality players to chose from.

Last season 2020/21 with Warnock simply cannot be compared Karanka's 2014/15 season or his 2015/16 season. It can only be compared with the 2013/14 season in which Warnock ended the season with the exact same number of points as Karanka.

nothing classy about his constant referee bashing, even heard him screaming at a ref in a friendly. 'Good old Boris' in the middle of a mismanaged pandemic?
if you want to hang the man off that one comment then fair enough.. but don't pretend that something is when it isn't.

many managers complain about poor refereeing decisions.. if you want to talk about classy are we going to get in to how Karanka handled Craig Hignett?

how about the strops and the walkouts?

does our situation change if warnock starts wearing free julian assange t-shirts? does he become a more progressive manager if he starts speaking with a german twang?

Not quite comparing apples with apples. Karanka’s 2013-14 season started after 13 games and a low league position, Warnock 20-21 season was a full one ( and fell away ).

----------Stojanovic--------
Howson--Shotton--Fry--Friend
---------McNair--Clayton----
-----Nmecha--Wing--Coulson--
------------Gestede---------
so from that side Stojanovic is proven at an equivalent level, Howson, Shotton, Fry, Friend, McNair, Clayton, even Wing and Gestede were moderately proven championship players. That leaves Coulson....a kid, and Nmecha who signed for Wolfsberg for 7mill. Then theres the bench "Tavernier, Assombalonga, Fletcher, Morrison, Roberts, Johnson, Saville, Spence, Pears" With 5 players proven at this level, plus Morrison, Roberts and Pears. That is a far better team than the one Karanka followed, and of course was utterly mismanaged by Woodgate.

great point if we want to compare their first seasons they both arrived part way through and avoided relegation. Their first full season Warnock threatened play offs for 5 months then tumbled down the table. Karanka reached the play off final finishing 4th in the league

8 games is not a season it can’t be used in any comparison.

You can’t count 8 games as a season!!
