Yeah, there's an episode of Archer where it happens which also references an episode of the six million dollar man with the same plot.

I always thought it was a myth.

I love the fact the Japanese army gave him 30 years of back pay, which he refused!

Also I would love to hear the story of the guy that found him, given he said he was looking for "Lt Onoda, a panda, and the abominable snowman. In that order"
