Can anybody suggest a safe social media app for teenagers please.
At the moment they have WhatApp and Tik Tok.
I understand that that WhatsApp will be coming to an end next month if the user does not agree to allow WhatsApp share personal information about them with Face Book. Is this correct?

I'm not to worried about the WhatsApp changes since Facebook own it and I already have a fb account, so can't see what detriment that will cause me

Trug, I use WhatsApp & occasionally Facebook & wasn't aware its coming to an end if the information sharing isnt agreed on

It's only what I have heard .I am not very clever on these modern methods of communication. I don't know what was wrong with smoke signals and messenger pigeons. :oops:

I do use FB but only on the Boro site & WhatsApp family groups & friends, I'm like you, these things scare me
 
Social media is only as safe as the people using it. Whats app is probably as safe as any, if they have a closed user group. However if they invite others into it, then you are not sure who you let in.
At some point all kids will push the boundaries, it is better that they learn how to handle themselves in these environment i.e. they learn to not meet up with strangers in person. I found with my kids that it is better to show me what they are posting and discussing rather than hiding things from you.
 
there’s other apps out there such as Telegram and Signal which are now growing in popularity due to WhatsApp’s data sharing issues.

It's half correct. You do need to accept the new agreement to keep using WA.

However, the new agreement will not allow sharing of personal information with Facebook in the EU, EEA or UK due to data protection laws.
 
Telegram’s owners may reap some increased traffic but their end game will be to sell their business to one of the big boys eventually.
I seriously don't mind agreeing to the new terms and conditions. Mind you I don't use Facebook.
