Can you help name these brazen and prolific fly-tippers and put them out of business?

Middlesbrough Council MEDIA RELEASE

They’re being sought by Middlesbrough Council’s Environmental Neighbourhood Safety Team after a spate of incidents.

The vehicle – a Ford Transit tipper truck, registration number Y847 GAT – has been reported numerous times dumping tyres, building waste and other material at sites around East Middlesbrough.

In one recent incident on November 19 two men were caught on camera dumping a large load of tyres in Kreuger Alley, North Ormesby.

Now the town’s Environment & Community Services Environmental Neighbourhood Safety Team is appealing for help to track down the duo as part on their ongoing fly-tipping crackdown.

Fly-tippers face a Fixed Penalty Notice of £400 if caught, while failing to ensure waste is disposed of legally can land a householder with a fine of between £150 and £300.

The truck – which is untaxed and unregistered – will be headed for the crusher when it is found and seized.

Middlesbrough Mayor Andy Preston said: “This is brazen criminality that blights communities and we’re determined to stamp it out.

“We’ll find those responsible and hit them where it hurts – in the pocket – and put their vehicle out of action.”
  • Anyone with information on these fly-tippers is asked to contact the Council’s contact centre on 01642 726001 quoting incident reference number 588817
Anti-social behaviour, fly-tipping and dozens of other offences can also be reported online at www.middlesbrough.gov.uk/report

Middlesbrough Council offers a safe, free or inexpensive bulky waste collection service. For more information and to request a collection, visit www.middlesbrough.gov.uk/recycling-and-rubbish/bulky-item-collection or call 01642 726001.

Residents can also book online to dispose of large items at the Household Waste and Recycling Centre at Haverton Hill.

There is no charge for residents but fees apply for businesses.

The tipper won’t belong to the lads, they will just be getting paid to do it.

I am sure we can all keep an eye out for it.

Keep an eye out. I done jury service before and some lads got 3 years for fly tipping after we found them guilty.

Scum of society, ruining it for the kids.

Crystal clear on the camera somebody must know them.

it is nearly 2023 after all.

aren't we trying to save the planet? we're in a cost of living crisis in one of the most deprived areas in the country.. we need to start thinking differently.

Lol

All I'm saying is if I was mayor I'd take a much more progressive approach to these kinds of things.. the amount of time and resources that PP Preston spends on trying to 'solve' these sorts of issues is embarrassing. I thought his approach to kids on bikes in the town centre was disgusting and his criminalising of poverty brings nothing but shame to our region. We have a strong artistic community in the area and have a wealth of engineering talent also, our history of innovation in the area is something that should be built on and encouraged.

As BaronSmoggie says, fining them will not do anything. Imagine seeing the tyres that you'd dumped for £20 being turned into a few grands worth of upcycled furniture.. might make them think differently rather than pushing them further into financial difficulty and forcing them to think of unlawful ways in which to make a living.

Would you take a similar approach for dumped furniture and how about mattresses?
Sadly, I see plenty when litter picking.

If tyres can be recycled, its a wonder there isnt a recycle centre, where all those tyres can go - legit?

I dont know how the process works - but I have two cycle fleece - jackets which are sourced 95% from recycled tyres.
They feel like a "normal fleece" and [unlike most fleece jackets] are warm in the wet and almost completely waterproof.
There is definitely a way of economically recycling things like tyres - so what is stopping it from becoming a big plus factor in our economy?

Sadly, I see plenty when litter picking.
Community skips have been used with some success in various places Rob.
Our council used to provide them three times a year, but cuts in budgets from Central Government mean the council can no longer provide the facility.:( The council has to charge for picking up "special items" such as furniture, white goods, etc. That service used to be free.
We need a complete rethink.(y)

I'd be interested to find out what Andy Preston's views are on the brazen criminality that blights our community like.. poisoning our rivers and sea life with pyridine or the large scale vandalism and destruction of our buildings and heritage assets.

'The Continued Harrying of Teesside'

After the costs of investigating, the costs to advertise and promote and the subsequent legal proceedings I do wonder if it is cost effective to prosecute these would be entrepreneurs to further deprive then financially and remove their ability to earn money going forward.

As much as all this negativity drives social media likes, clicks and shares for our fame hungry attention seeking mayor.. it doesn't show our area in a particularly good light and his use of language towards our fellow Teessiders is damaging further still. I'd be interested to find out the negative financial impact these comments and activities make to the 'Brand of Middlesbrough' in terms of external investment and opportunities.

one issue at a time roberto!

for the dumped furniture, it depends on the condition whether or not there is an opportunity for re-purposing or upcycling. used tyres are a fixed resource and the future uses can be quite wide ranging. 'furniture' covers a lot of different items and would need to be looked at on a case by case basis. mattresses are interesting as I believe they are 100% recyclable.. yet only around 16% actually are, a big issue when it comes to landfill. a more formalised process would need to be used to reclaim materials for mattresses and that process would have to form part of a recycling centre for it to be cost effective. definitely more thought would have to be put into that from me.
