Hellberg talking about tactics

Never heard a manager-certainly not a Boro manager-ever discuss their philosophy and tactics to the extent he does. I think his views on the game are really interesting, and you can see he has a healthy confidence in his abilities but never comes across as arrogant.

Hignett on the other hand, loved him as a player but hope he has no aspirations for a talk show!

I love how pragmatic he is.

Build tactics around the players you have but with an overall aim of controlling the possession and winning it back quickly when you lose it.

Also loved the bit about not passing for the sake of it but trying to create attempts at goal as quickly as possible.

Yeah pragmatic is the word, works to a philosophy rather than a rigid system.

A top class listen. Although his pressers are every bit as interesting. The guy just loves football and working out 'problems'.

Interesting that he's not overly fussed about the actual formation. We've seen that with Conway all over the place. Also Browne basically playing on the Right Yet going from RWB to stepping into CM in a heartbeat. The whole team is pretty fluid and can change in game.

We've come a long way since Warnock. That said it's not a slate on him. He was exactly what we needed at the time.

Higgy does ok , just needs practise. Although it does seem like he has to stop himself dropping into a 'schhtteve' mclaren type cod accent

Enjoy him while hes here, if he continues the way he's started here then its only a matter of time before he attracts the attention of the big boys.
Agree, though people used to say that re Karanka and Carrick.

He loves crime thrillers on telly. Bet he’s popular with the ladies.

Absolutely but he's such a breath of fresh air for now. Yep it's a worry he will be poached at some point. But means he's been successful.

Also his openness could feel like a worry, but he seems so positive, and fluid in his formation and player changes, I have a feeling the opposition aren't able to 2nd guess him yet

Absolutely loving him at the mo, I hope it's a long term relationship for us and for him!
