Head Teacher refuses Ofsted inspection

I know several teachers who have been signed off with stress, a lot of which coincides with Ofsted inspections. Ofsted was one of the reasons why my mum left full-time teaching many years ago, and certainly played a factor in my wife going from school teacher to working in Further Education. Interestingly the inspections in Further Education are a light touch compared with schools.

The job is horribly stressful. That is why it really annoys me when someone makes snide comments about their holidays.

I think this is brilliant. My Wife has been a teacher for 12 years and whenever I hear the words "Ofsted have rang!", I know that for the next week to ten days I'll be doing all the washing, ironing and cooking! (Rather than sharing the load - there is no misogyny here!).

The pressure it places on schools and colleges, I'm told is beyond a joke and more often than not does lead to staff suffering from stress and anxiety. I am all for accountability in the workplace but having seen first hand the expectations that are expected in certain areas, I would agree it is time for a review.

I very rarely pay attention to gammons on social media however I did bite the other day when I read several comments from people attempting to mock teachers by shouting from the roof tops "their starting wage is £30k a year and they take half the year off". Like I say, I bit. Badly. It touched a nerve and felt it was a reasonable opportunity to give a first hand opinion. My comment wasn't personal, however sarcastic in their original ideologies of the teaching industry.

You only have to read the WhatsApp messages between Hancock and Williamson to understand the utter contempt this government has for teachers.

And of course this contempt filters through to certain parts of the population.

I work in the NHS and front line clinicians have little to no regard/ worry for a CQC inspection. Teaching offsted worry is a daily/ weekly talking point. Crazy.
I was going to say the same. Both my wife and I work in regulated industries (financial sector and drug development) but the levels of stress around inspection by the relevant government bodies is way lower than that around OFSTED inspections in school. It can't simply be that teachers are more anxious individuals which indicates that OFSTED have got the balance completely wrong.

If inspections are vital to improve how things are done, then who inspects the ofsted inspectors and who will inspect the the inspectors of ofsted inspectors and so on.

Or are ofsted allowed to have internal monitoring that is accepted unlike schools?
