He is staying put 💯💯

Main thing looks like he is staying for next season. He wants things to be changed at the club to 💯👌

I have been looking at the table just now and despite all the fuss after the game mid-week we could be sitting outside the playoffs on goal difference tonight. There are still 42 points to play for.

Question is, and it is hypothetical, of we were to succeed and go up, are we in any position to be able to overhaul the squad sufficiently to allow us to finish 17th or above in the Premier League?

I have a feeling he's staying. I think we've had a whole raft of players sign new deals and he's talking about long term overhaul.

I think maybe it's about how much money will be available. Although he's talking about a long list of players available in the summer on frees. So that's clearly a route we are going down (some very good champo players out of contract in the summer).

I can see him going for Morrison at Cardiff. He loves him😍 and he's out of contract.

I still think this season has been a massive progression. I hope he sticks around for another year and gets the forwards and leaders he wants.

How many times has this board had posts slating the recruitment team? Interesting that now NW has come out and said that he'll be getting potential signings watched live by him or his assistants and not on video as anyone can look good on a video.
From the Gazette:
The manager says Akpom was "top of the recruitment team's list" in the summer but due to the covid pandemic, Boro weren't able to watch him in action live for PAOK in Greece and instead had to study video clips.

I don't think it is particularly good management to criticize a player like that. It may well be how he feels and how we see the situation but image how it makes Akpom feel, especially as he has been playing him and may still need to.

Others players may also be fearful of being slaughtered so publicly and it can effective their performance, I don't think it does much for team harmony or spirit.

We go through swings of some players being told they are the best in the league whilst others are being told they are useless all within a short space of time, I don't think that the way I would build a successful team bond, but that's just me.

The recruitment team signed Akpom then? He wasn't saying that in the summer. He also said he had turned down defenders recommended by recruitment staff so I think he is deflecting here, to be honest. If Akpom had knocked 15 goals in we wouldn't be hearing anything about the recruitment team.

Agree entirely NW signed Akpom not recruitment team
Just trying to lay blame on them

The bloke is bending the truth here, wouldn’t surprise me if he’s reading the posts on here between some of us about Akpom being a duck egg and deflecting the comments he made when he signed him.

He’s happy to pass comment when he’s proven right when Watmore and Morsy turn in MoM performance but I think his ego is bruised a bit when his signings have turned out to be flops.

This also isnt much of a ringing endorsement for Kevin Blackwell’s eye for a player if he’s the one picking the goalkeepers to sign given our current two on the books, hopefully we can get more quality in in the summer as a first choice and get the other lad back from loan.

NW also said Kevin Blackwell stated that Whatmore was sxxxe and would never get back to his best, only later did he comeback to NW and admit he was wrong. So with that and the goalkeeping situation I wouldn't be putting any recuitment in his hands.

Finally a B_L post I agree with, its only taken him 611 attempts!

I think that a few of the things he has said over the past cpl of weeks are indicating that he would like to stay and build on what he has done this season, we are definitely a work in progress and NW isnt the kind of guy that likes to leaves jobs half done.

to be honest still not convinced about Warnock or his style of football, he was winning me over at the start of the season, when we had that good patch and I thought we were certs for the top 6 (fickle I know). It is bit worrying that our home form is so sh&*e under him this season same as the end of last season, maybe it is how sets his team up at home but at least no one can blame the fans!

Neil works with the players every day. Knows their personalities and situations etc. I don’t think he would have said that if he didn’t know Akpom would use it as motivation go up his game, instead of knocking his confidence.

As has already been said, the situation in the EFL at the moment is a lot of good players are looking like they’ll move for free this summer. So it’s great that we’ve got some players tied to new deals and seem to be already actively looking for deals to be done. All in the knowledge that, most likely, Brit Assombalonga and his wages will be gone.

It’s good to see honesty from the manager about recruitment needing work, as everyone can see it is desperate to be done.
