Hayes on Frozen Pitches

It's up to her employers at Chelsea whether they install under ground heating at their own ground or not. It's nothing to do with Sky Sports or anyone else. If the money from TV and crowds are there, then the clubs will want to have heated pitches to avoid the loss of revenue - I do wonder of this is the case yet?

Whether U16 boys teams can beat the women's team or not is irrelevant.

Exactly.

Surely it should be an aspiration of the women's game at the top level to have the same facilities as the men, even if they are on a smaller scale?

There's a piece on the BBC about one of the Arsenal players opening a tab in the pub for the fans who'd arrived for their game at Brighton only to find it called off. Strikes me that given the relatively short distance between London and Brighton a very late postponement like that does nobody any favours. Having undersoil heating or other methods to ensure games go ahead has to be something that needs looking into if the game is going to grow.

And for all, not just the elite of both sexes.

The more exposure it gets, the more people are interested. I was suprised how much I got into the Euros last year. If it isn't promoted people won't be interested. I can't see why you would have a problem with the women's game getting more exposure to try and give some of the opportunities men get in the game to women. I certainly can't see why you would have an issue with them getting the same level of facilities.

The only thing that irks me about Sky's coverage of the WSL, is they will put out a headline, for example last week, 'Liverpool sign Fuka Nagano'. My brain automatically assumes this is Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool and I'm starting to question my knowledge of Japanese footballers, but turns out it's the Liverpool Women's team.

The BBC do that as well. Often I hear similar about Man City and Arsenal only it to relate to the WSL teams.

If Emma Hayes and those involved in running and promoting the women's game can build their product and their offering to the point where they bring in similar levels of income and interest as the Premier League, then she'd be well within her right to raise the question of facilities being at the same level as the Premier League.

Until then, she shouldn't be demanding and calling for the same level of infrastructure and facilities as the Premier League.

Isn't that just common sense?

If a men's League 2 club knocked on the door of the EFL and started demanding the same facilities and infrastructure as a Premier League club, they'd get laughed out of the door... but the woke brigade won't allow you to react like that to Emma Hayes and call her a gobshite.. because it's Emma Hayes and she's talking about equality. It's nonsense.

They do that with notifications to your phone too.

I've had a look to see if you can remove or alter the notifications (like I have done with other sports I'm not interested in, such as rugby), but there doesn't appear to be an option for WSL.

I believe the only options I have, is either to put up with WSL notifications on my phone if I want football news, or turn football notifications off altogether.

Why should the money invested in the game only benefit the side that we've been brainwashed to watch?

That says more about your personal hunger for any information, regardless of quality, than it does about those spreading the trivia.

It's not a public service. It's a private business that generates money from customers and can spend its money however it wants as long as it is within the laws. If the business doesn't have the customers then it isn't viable to spend like a business that does.

How very Tory 👍🏻

To be honest, since I signed up to The Athletic a while back, the speed and quality of their news/articles/information is much better than that of SkySports.

The Athletic also allows you to choose which teams/leagues/nation/writers etc you can have updates on for their articles.

I think I need to stop being lazy and remove the SkySports app from my phone altogether.

I think it's reasonable to suggest that teams respresenting Chelsea and Liverpool, two of the biggest clubs in the world, should have the infrastructure to tackle a frozen pitch.
Which would be fine if they were playing at Stamford Bridge and Anfield. But they aren't. They are playing at Kingsmeadow (a former non league club ground) and Prenton Park (home of Tranmere Rovers) respectively.
