The kids been excellent and he's improving every game. I don't understand why we got the likes of Mowatt in, when we had this lad on our books. He's making that central midfield spot his own now and it's great to see.

he’s got a long way to go yet, still looks quite weak and struggles to consistently impact the game. That said he’s certainly proven the best 3rd cm option we’ve got and he’s been getting better each game

I've been critical of Hackney in earlier incarnations in his tendency to lose the man he was marking when we lost the ball higher up the field. I think this was why Wilder was wary of using him. Under Carrick he seems to be lying slightly deeper with McGree taking the more advanced role and this has helped him solve the issue.

Hope hes not just an away player. Last home game really poor but I like how he is willing to receive the ball and play deep in his own half. Needs to improve his clearances when under pressure. Good game tonight

Tell you what he surprised me tonight after picking up that very early card. He done brilliant to play 90 minutes after that without ever looking likely to get a second yellow and he made some crucial tackles in that second half.

I thought he was guaranteed for a red after that early booking.
