Hayden Coulson signs new contract to 2025

Possibly more money, but at least it offers him paid work until 2025. Not all released players pick up decent contracts.

Genuinely think he’s brilliant. Always rated him over Spence, if you look at the turnaround in Chuba maybe Carrick can help Hayden kick on.

I suppose there's probably an element of not letting academy talent fully leave the club without us getting something for them, which would have happened with Wilder and was happening with previous managers, such as Connor Malley and Nathan Wood.

Also might be smart planning should we remain in the championship next season with a number of loanees in the first team squad likely to return to their clubs. If we remain in the championship, it's a potentially huge season for Coburn, Coulson and others out on loan next year.

I haven't paid any attention to him since went to the SPL, but if he's doing well a contract will increase his value in the event that Celtic or Rangers start sniffing around him maybe 🤷🏼‍♂️
I still can't see how that makes sense.
You think the club would tie themselves to a player they don't want on the off chance another club wants him?

This sounds right to me. If we do get promoted, odds are he goes out on loan. If we don't, he becomes a back-up option for the squad. This summer he was the only exile that Wilder let train with the team so there's still a chance he might make it.

I would guess he will be put up for sale in the Summer, but its good for Coulson as it guarantees him a decent wage what ever happens.

Yeah. They must see potential which hasn't been fully realised. He'll probably go out on loan and we'll hope a mini Djed Spence situation develops. Maybe not £12m but a couple of £m.
That would make sense for the player as well, with a couple of yrs security.

Never thought he offered much to be honest. Plays with enthusiasm but certainly can’t defend. Hope he comes back and shows he’s developed his game.

If we get promoted then he probably won’t even make the 25 man squad depending on how much business we do in the summer.

If he’s a genuine first team contender for next season I’d be worried.

It’s all good saying he looked good in a few games under Woody a 3 years ago, but he’s not the future and I can only assume he’s signed a contract so we can get some sort of money for him.

yeah I meant if we have no intention of playing him. if it's just to get more £ for us I don't see an incentive for him.
I know mate, just pulling your leg, sorry.

I think from his point of view the contract here is probably better financially than anything he'll get at a potential new club, such as Aberdeen, plus he's got a chance to back himself and impress carrick in the summer.

He was a player that I thought showed a lot of potential under Woodgate and I was surprised by how little he's kicked on.
