Have we given up as a club

Absolutely sick of us getting linked with lower half level championship strikers like this chump from bristol City.

We are Middlesbrough we have supporters and fans the world over.

If Norwich can find Pukki we can find another Slaven.

Come on Steve G. It doesnt cost money it takes time and effort to get out there and find talent.

And I dont mean spazzing 3 million on a player that we watch a youtube clip off ffs.

Agree to an extent. Our club ethos and recruitment team and succession planning has failed in the last 5 years when you hold the system up for scrutiny against; Brentford, Norwich, Brighton and say Swansea
All clubs we feel are no where near as big as ourselves and yet have achieved a lot more or have very solid bases.
Seems to me we have put the training ground and facilities in place but forgotten about the art of recruitment in the 1st

It’s an art because you can pick up developing players too good for u23s but nurtured right are good enough to make an impact in the 1st team....

Bola, dikjsteel fit into this category and Browne to an extent but we need more of these

To be fair we have now done well scouting Bola / Dijksteel and maybe Browne. That said they were know where near being ready to go into championship football and we nearly went down 'waiting' a year to get them up to speed.

We are probably missing a bit of champo nounce and old heads. I know it's not glamorous but 2 or three 28-32 year olds who have been around the block could help. Just don't go mad throwing 3 year deals at a 31 year old.

We are losing 2mil a month (at the moment) and have been for nearly 18 months. It's not difficult to see what we ain't signing anyone for actual money. Just look around the champo. Who is buying? That's why all the same clubs are being linked with the same free agents.

I am sure Barnsley fans didn't 'rate' anyone they signed. The fact is we simply can't compete with clubs with parachute payments. It's going to be the same this summer.

We had 'our chance' and between Monk and Pulis they sp*nked the lot😕

We suffer from one major thing- mismanagement . This has been the case for lots of years. Financially we have been a basket case up there with the best of them.

Transfer policy- paying over the odds for players, letting them go for free, has costed tens of millions of pounds. No visible strategy for what we are looking to achieve and, more importantly, how we would plan to advance.

A club that even if the owner wanted to sell the balance sheet would prove to be the stumbling block.

These factors result in us being a very badly run club- something that has been the case for 10 years or so.

So where we find ourselves is hardly surprising. And, of course, the mantra offered from blind followers of Steve Gibson is we are lucky to have him and still having a club.

Scratch beneath the surface and the scenario is rather depressing. So any promotional challenge is going to result on free transfers- hence bringing in players in an ideal world we wouldn’t touch

All this "big club" stuff is just nonsense. Any club with a bigger revenue than Boro is bigger than Boro, and Boro is bigger than any team with lower revenue. History in football means nothing any more. The lower leagues are full of teams who have won leagues and FA Cups and League Cups but those wins from decades ago don't help one jot with paying the bills any more.

Exactly which is why any club of our size or aspirations needs outside investment. The days of a local man owning the local club have gone.

Look at Barnsley are they a better investment prospect than us, really ???

I’m not calling gibbo to go but we need to look for other avenues on or off the pitch as well.

Zorro sadly, they probably are. Their balance sheet will be nowhere near as bad as ours

Looking around - it seems some "big" Championship sides are looking closely at players they might not have considered only a few years ago.
Sign of the times maybe?

This might be unpopular but I think losing victor orta was huge as finally we had someone who could work with the manager off the pitch to get things done. We had focus we had a direction. be it good or bad but it was there and he wasn’t hired as he was gibbos mate an explayer or local either. He was a genuine top class appointment from the continent who had a great reputation in the game.

Losing him in such a manner showed the power struggle at the club and exposed a few weaknesses and insecurities at the top.

look at him now.

for me the ultimate sign that we’d “given up” was when we let a dinosaur like pullis through the door.

Warnock said last year that we lost out on many targets due to being 'blown out of the water' in terms of wages by other clubs.

I guess the boot is very much on the other foot. Its something we have done for years. Just look at the wage bill and the list of pretty average players making a fortune off us.

I'm glad we've stopped throwing even 10-15k a week at people. To think Briit and Braithwaite were pushing 30-35k. Absolute mindless spending.

The fact our chairman can’t even be bothered to write us a letter at st renewal
Time ( as was the case a few years ago) speaks volumes as well.

For me it`s the lack of a plan for the future that is giving me the biggest concern

Our owner needs to realise that we`ll support the Boro no matter what league we are in, so come out and give us some truthful words

I don`t want to read between the lines of looking at loans equating to we have no money

Maybe he feels that we wouldn`t understand the full situation that we are in.......just give us a chance Steve

How can you sell the fact that we are tens of millions of pounds in debt and this is largely due to the decisions made by the messenger? Hard one to sell to anyone with a basic grasp of economics.

We have lost our way, we seem like ‘The Flying Dutchman‘ right now. All we can do is hope that between them, Gibson, Bausor and Warnock know what they are doing. Recent history rightly has us worried as fans on that score.

I am still of the belief a Kenyon type appointment would help steer the club in the right direction and to eventually make port, but i don’t see that happening. Gibson coming out to speak will not help, he has done that before and led us down the garden path. His actions did not seem to match his words after Premier League relegation or at Woodgates appointment, so for me, i would rather he stayed silent and got on with the job in hand. We do not need another reason to divide us right now.

I’ve always said that a club like us needs a USP something that sets us apart, this was Robbo ( a huge name) and the mclaren and again karanka ( his novelty value) it gave us that edge.

what I always said was that it would be fatal to our recruiting policy if we made a non inspiring run of the mill appointment and that’s exactly what we did monk wood gates and then pullis ( an appointment that actually damaged that reputation) and to a degree mogga as well it made us mediocre.

we should have gone after lampard or someone if that ilk as this was a Robbo style appointment and would have gave us that spotlight again with his contacts. I was surprised we never but it looks like those days are over.
