Have we ever had a good Jan Transfer window

Hate the January transfer window, certainly in recent years feels like we are doing okay up to then, get players in Jan to try and improve the team further, but just seems to upset a winning formula it was similar last year with Warnock and even Woodgate to an extent had our best run then got Roberts and that Harold Moukoudi in, managers feel they have play the new additions. The best January signing in recent times was probably Gaston Ramirez helped get us up that year

I don't think it has disrupted a winning formula, if I'm honest.
I think that's just people flailing for an answer to our last two horrible away performances.

Against Barnsley, all 11 players that started were here before January, we were woeful and 2-0 at half time before either of the January strikers came on.

Last night, 10 of the starting 11 were here before January, only Connolly as the newbie and he was much better than Sporar who's been here all season.

Year we went up maybe under Karanka?

Ramirez
Rhodes
De Laet

Couple more as well I think maybe Kike Sola? The ones above maybe more notable.

yeah i get that but was thinking more upsetting a winning team which was playing regularly and existing players feeling hard done by and losing confidence been replaced by players no better, dunno who knows, although I think Riley McGree will be a good signing long term for sure

The promotion season under Karanka was a good one. I actually think this window was decent. I haven’t checked but where were we when it opened compared to when it closed? I imagine we were higher up in the league, with a more balanced squad in place. It was always going to be hard for a new manager to do everything he needed to do in one winter transfer window.

Branca, Armstrong, Ricard.
it was a while ago and result definitely improved as a result we might of improved the quality and depth of the squad in recent Jan windows but not sure if the results have improved due Jan transfers in recent years, ideally you want someone new to come in and start banging the goals in or maybe like Festa back in the day and shoring up the defence

I don't think there was a window back then.
Didn't we sign them in the February?
Yes, spot on! Had to look it up but all signed week of Feb 15th, no window.

And of course, they all had that stunning debut against Liverpool in the league cup semi (from memory Ricard’s clearance hadn’t come through in time, but Branca we all remember).

After that season it would have been hard to imagine that of the 3, Ricard would be longest term success.

Branca looked world class.
Armstrong looked like quality.
Ricard looked like a donkey.

Riley McGree was good
Connolly & Balogun we’re cracking loan deals
Boyd-Munce looks class when he played.

Neil Taylor too!!
You have your red tinted glasses on Newy !
McGree - good signing who has yet to affect the team or results due to injury and call up .
Connelly and Balogun have been disappointing.
Boyd Munce has yet to influence our results , he is one for the future though , but if your good enough , your old enough , so step up lad , same goes for Siliki .
Taylor has been steady .
I hope the above turn it round, and it could happen
Get Mcgree fit ASAP
TRY Connelly deeper behind the strikers
Play Balogun up front or RW as well as wide left, as he IS right footed , and his pace would be better used as an impact sub.
Boyd Munce to challenge for a 1st team place on the left.
Hall to challenge at CH as we have been weak lately, but only if up to pace .
Crooks Tav and Howson need competition and we have it in those above.
Barnsley and Sheff U out worked us, which is something to sort on the training pitch.
Howson was a shadow of the player , he needs resting when needed, Crooks has been off the pace since being out throughout being booked, he needs to know he is not a nailed on starter.

Totally. If you’d have said to anyone at the end of that season that Ricard would be a consistent 15 goal a season Premier League striker and get 30 caps for Colombia, you’d have been sectioned. He looked terrible.

Wonder what he’d be worth in today’s game?

True, the only one who really fits the bill is Gaston. His quality took us up.
