Seems to be a thing with the Boro getting gazumped in transfers recently, just trying to remember from memory when we have done the gazumping. I am sure we have just cannot remember when ?

Not sure about gazumped Fattyfoggon, but one big signing we went head to head with a bigger club & won the signature was Aston Vila & one we sadly won when we got Peter Davenport 😔

Aye but did we come in late in the day, and change the players mind or after the club's had allegedly agreed a deal

Another one similar to the Peter Davenport one we wished we hadnt been successful, didnt Burnley offer £8m?

Yeah, and we hit his release clause by bidding £15m, nearly double Burnley's offer.

I was buzzing at the time but hindsight and all that.

Remember Arsenal crying foul over TLF joining us instead of them. Evening Standard in its outrage dedicated a whole page indignation, including an illustration of a TLF shivering under darkened skies, and dire warnings of what privations he'd endure up North. Turned out the the journo was an Arsenal supporting Geordie, whose expose of Teesside "facts" were all tongue in cheek and self deprecating remarks from Harry Pearson's The Far Corner. I remember MSS magazine printed the article in full and let Harry go to town on it. He ended the article along the lines of while Boro might not be pretty, "it's not as ugly as envy"! Nice one Harry!
