Will Isaiah reach his potential at boro?

Daft to suggest getting rid in my opinion. As already pointed out, if he's still able to chip in with a few goals and assists whilst apparently having a bad season, then it's worth hanging on to see him when he hits form.

Honestly though I think there's probably a different level of expectation from fans with him, compared to last year when he was an unknown quantity and it was such a bonus that he did as well as he did. I suspect he probably had mostly defensive coaching during Wilders year with him too, for the RWB role, so it'll maybe take him a while to get back to his best as a winger.
Agree with the expectation issue. Many people crumble under the weight of expectation and that feels like the case with Jones. Possibly a bit of time out of the team and him having more of a feeling that he's there to add to the team, rather than carrying it (like he was last season at times) may help.

I’m with you I said there was still a place for him, it just concerns me when a player can’t control the easiest of passes or even pass to a team mate.
This.
Jones got the last 30 minutes today and the game was gone. But - meekly passing the ball out of play 3 times in a row and looking like he wasn't up for it isn't a good look.

He couldn’t even trap a simple pass and did it at Birmingham as well, it’s childhood basics. He’s gone back over massively.

Absolutely awful - his performance second half was as bad as I have seen and he has had some shockers. Clueless out of possession - simply hides. Pointless in possession - no ideas or footballing nous. An amateur in a professional game. Should never pull our shirt on again. Afforded far too much latitude on here by folk.
Don’t be silly.

He’s been booted all over from when he first stared with us, still only young and has been asked to play in a different way, a different role.. perhaps not as glamorous or ‘Jones Centric’

Like I say, I must have missed his 3 goals and 3 assists if he’s been poor all season.

I must have missed his contributions in the wins over Norwich, Blackpool, Luton, Wigan x2 off the top of my head.

He was also the best player on the pitch v Sunderland at home. So you’re talking nonsense I’m afraid.
Is it nonsense though? He hasn’t been able to do the basics of football right in recent weeks, he’s been dropped from the starting 11 and getting minimal game time. I want him to do well but his performances have concerned me.

Recent weeks?

Wigan at home they were shyt scared of him, doubled up, left Giles in oceans of space to grab 3 assists. That was what 10 days ago?

Yes he dragged their players around but to put that win down to jones isn’t right. He’s been poor for a while now but has had the odd decent game. He needs to up his output. There is a reason why he can’t get in the 11.

He's a winger. Wingers need the confidence of the manager, team mates, fans etc. when he does try and beat and man, and fails, the last thing he needs is the crowd getting on his back, as the next time he is in that situation he will just play it safe.

Yes he hasn't had a standout season in terms of assists/ contributions but he is a threat the opposition are wary of. Often he is doubled up on leaving space elsewhere for others, namely giles, to exploit

Definite drop in form recently hence being taken out of the 11. I'm not unduly concerned, these things happen from time to time and the onus will be Jones to step up/improve to get his place back. I'd be pretty confident he's getting the support he needs from the coaching team.

I'm not sure about the comments re: playing wing back? Since Wilder has left I don't think he's played that position once? Whenever he has played it has been RW in a 4-2-3-1

It's no coincidence that Jones is being doubled up on a lot this season whilst Giles has top assists in the league. Last season our attacking threat was wholly centred around Jones with Taylor on the other side barely getting out our half. That was never a tactic that could work long term as opposition adapt.

This season we have more options down the left meaning Jones isn't always going to have the impact that he did last year but it is a team game and if he is helping create the space for Giles then that is a contribution in it's own right.

The team is doing great at the moment. Why is there always such a desire to find a negative when there are so many positives to focus on

The hyperbole towards some our players by our own fans is ridiculous at times. A few bad games and some are desperate to "get rid" straight away.

You wouldn't think we had a certain, previously written off by pretty much everyone, centre forward currently top of the championship scoring charts would you?

Crooks, Fry, Lenihen, Howson, McGree....all have been labelled as "nowhere near good enough" by some our fans at points over the last few seasons.

Jones is undergoing a dip in form. It doesn't turn him into a bad player overnight. He's young, got some great attributes but it's not quite going for him right now. No panic, I'm sure Carrick, Danks etc will be on it and there's every chance he'll turn it around.

Also to put a positive spin on things it's good that we are able to take him out of the limelight for a while whilst still winning games.

Shows the strength in depth we are building in the club. Imagine if we had lost him to injury this time last year. Team would have been screwed

people were far too quick to hype him up, I am sure people are also far too quick to write him off. It seems to be the nature of modern sports.

Personally, one swallow doesn't make a summer, and I struggle to see a future for him at this level given his work rate and application.
