I have a few that I want to cash in, I have won a few £25 prizes.

Has anyone won a big prize?

Nope I’ve had 25 about four times over the years! I don’t know anyone who has won big either.

I won £100 when I was younger but nothing for years. My dad regularly wins on the PM's but nothing big. His favourite saying is 'I've had a visit from Ernie.'

I had about £25,000 in premium bonds for around a year while I was looking for a property (2014ish). It was my house deposit.

During this time I won over £500, I can't remember the exact breakdown but I think we won £100 3 times and a handful of £25 and £50. It seemed like a decent return but I guess 2% annually isn't amazing.

Good shout that - how do I cash in my premium bonds? I’ve got some and forgot about them.
Won £50 about 15 years ago

I have the maximum allocation and get about a 2% return, which is decent. Plus of course their is the chance of a big win.
As a young adviser I'd quote the nominal return on premium bonds as reasons not to invest. One my clients ignored me and won 25k in the first 6 months, he never let me forget it ( in a nice way).
In 30 odd years I had two clients ( including this one) who won £25000.
If your risk averse it's a better than you'll get than with cash deposit.
As one said , it's a few moments of excitement, opening the letter.( Is it email now? )
I did the same as B-G between house purchases, similar results ( and better than cash deposit)

You can still get the letters/cheques through the post if you opt to.... but then you have the hassle of paying them in. £1k is my biggest.

(I only seem to be able to delete one letter at a time on the site here now. Anyone else experienced that problem)?

The biggest win I have had was £1000 about six years ago.

I keep a track on the return I have had over the twenty odd years I've had them & it averages out at around 1.9% per year which is pretty poor.

The current return on Premium Bonds is very low, it generally tracks interest rates, so the chances of picking up the low £25-£100 prizes is very low at the moment. The bigger amounts are ring fenced and therefore the probability of winning the big prizes remains the same, given a steady number of premium bonds in circulation. However the chances of winning are still very low.
I had them for many years and used to get a decent return, it is better than money sat in a bank account and is very low risk.
I was once told that if you churn the bonds, i.e. cash in an a substantial amount and then reinvest increases the likelihood of a pay out, however I can not say that I noticed a difference.

I had a £500 worth I bought In 1990. Since then I have had 2 x £25 wins, both in the first couple of years after purchase. since then not one penny in 28 yrs. I presumed Ernie had gone back to delivering milk. I keep mulling cashing them in but just think ‘what if‘... daft, I know.

I don't know anyone who has won big on the premium bonds, probably £100 is the most I've ever heard anyone I know win.

It seems that bingo has the best return on big wins ;) I know a guy who won over £13k, a few have had £2-3k and I know someone who won over £50k

I win pretty much every month, the returns are minimal but it’s a good place to stick cash that’s safe and avoids capital gains tax especially if you have other savings and investments. My house deposit is sitting there. Most I’ve won in a month is £200. Had £75 each of the last 2 months.

Had £500 worth of bonds that I accumulated over a period of time as a young kid. My Grandad would buy me them rather than give me the cash. I sold them as soon as I could after I turned 18 and "invested" them into Middlesbrough FC.

I'm yet to receive a return.:)

You must be quite lucky or hold a lot of them!
