The slow creepdown of the percentage alcohol of their favorite lagers. For me it was Becks going from 5% to 4 .8 then 4. Now Stella is 4.6%!?! Wifebeater ain't what it used to be.

Ahah pal you need to stick to trusted stuff - my go to is Heineken that's always 5% but after that I rotate from Peroni, Kroenberg and San Miguel all 5&ers. What I love are the European lagers like Staropramen and Budvar which are 5 and others are over.

I started brewing my own in lockdown. I am drinking a lovely pilsner at the moment and I have an IPA which is also very good and around 6.5%. Next up I've got a Ruby Red Ale and Old Conkerwood Black Ale to start. I have also done a Strawberry and Pear Cider for the Mrs and my 2 daughters which has been a big hit. I have also done Merlot, Sauvignion Blanc, Pinot Grigio and Cabernet Sauvigion. I am a little disappointed with the Cabernet, it's ok but not quite up to the standard of the others which have been very good. I am also going to do a ginger beer for my ladies.

I think Stella lowered its content a few years ago. I grew up with the likes of Fosters / Carling and xxxx (remember that😂) all around 4% or just under.

You for on the Stella to 'get on it' at 5%

It's funny because when I was in the armed forces they wouldn't let JR ratings have Stella in the mess fridge. Then all of a sudden it was on the list because it dropped under 5%.... So it was suddenly 'ok' 😂

I really don't see how lowering the percentage makes much difference? You just have one more can and its sorted the issue out lol.

Something fruit based for the ladies 😂 you are Al Murray, I claim my ten pounds 😆

As A lightweight- 4% is enough for me. I was drinking Becks on Thursday night and my head was booming yesterday morning. Mind you, I did have a lot of it.

It’s quite funny to think that people used to class Stella as “strong” at 5.2%. The majority of craft beer etc available now is well above that. Or at least a very significant proportion of it is. Yet no one associates it with wife beating.

Everything I drink these days is 6% and over and none of it is lager. Leffe, Tripel Karmeliet, La Trappe, Kwak etc. Drinks to be savoured not necked and not by the pint either.

I think Stella has become the new Fosters amongst oafish Wetherspoons or estate pub lads, now that Fosters has been slowly fizzed up to just taste like carbonated air.

I’m assuming its to give the impression the price isn’t creeping up, as reducing the ABV decreases the duty payable.

TBH I‘ve got a couple of Stella’s to drink tonight with homemade pizzas, it’s pretty inoffensive and the strong chillis need some lager rather than my usual tipple.

Whilst not a lager obviously, as I hate all lager/beer, I noticed this several years ago with Smirnoff Ice. When I first started drinking it way back when, it was 5.6%. I noticed one day that the one I was drinking was 5% and felt a bit scammed. Over the coming months I then noticed a 4.5% and then a 4% one, so quite a big difference, which it seems many of them are now (I normally drink spirits but don't mind stuff like that when having a longer drink). Assumed at the time it was different places and different price points but a long time since I saw one that was 5.6%
