Hartlepool Constituency Poll

The good folk of Hartlepool seem to have more in common with a millionaire farmer from Yorkshire than a lot of us thought they would 🤔

If Corbyn was posting these kind of numbers in a Labour safe seat after the deaths of 120,000 citizens, the centrists in the party would demand he resigned immediately.
The government would have been overthrown by a Tory led military coup - like the one they had planned in the 1970s

It's got nothing to do with the labour leadership, it's the brexit cult.
Labour are still seen as the party that tried to block brexit. And as we know with brexit supporters thsts all going wonderful.
The sad fact is they will forgive johnson anything.
Show me a north east tory voter and I will show you a brexiter.
Hes good campaigner though Williams, I wouldn't rule him out.

Who would have thought an ardent remainer who lost his seat 25minuites up the road for just that reason would still prove unpopular?

Starmer has been truly dreadful, unfortunately 85% of the parties MPs are at odds with traditional Labour values.. it doesn't look like things are going to change any time soon. at best they are completely out of touch without any sense of self awareness.

Ian Lavery would have been the one for me..

Thelma Walker for the WIN!

Yeah they should get behind tory values like lining the pockets of the cronies.
As above its the cult of brexit, nothing else matters, thousands of unnecessary deaths included

Looks like it will be very close.

Labour are looking stronger than I expected at 42%.

You’ve got the Brexit cult, the Johnson cult, the furlough benefiters, the mass shutting down of freedoms in the last year to protect the elderly and vulnerable.

The Tories really should be at 60% in a seat like this where everything is in their favour just now.

Starmer (who tried to overturn Brexit) has parachuted a former Labour MP (who lost his seat as he tried to overturn Brexit) into one of the staunchest Leave seats in the country.

It’s won’t be difficult to work out where things went wrong if he loses this seat.

Honestly you can’t make it up with this choice. Williams should have been no where near that seat

It'll be interesting to see if the millionaire farmer from Yorkshire is willing to debate with Dr Williams.
My suspicion is that she won't.
She has a fundamental lack of local knowledge and while she's ahead in the polls her party will be keen to avoid giving a competent debater like Dr Williams an opportunity to expose her.

That’s without going into the fact that he’d spent months campaigning to be Police and Crime Commissioner and just days earlier he was telling everyone how proud he would be to represent the area in that role.

One phone call and he dropped it immediately.

Exactly.... he was almost a shoe in for winning it too

If he loses this he is going to look a right muppet

See, after 2016 and 2019 I have no faith left in the English (and I mean English) electorate. I don't think Brexit comes into it as they seem incapable of looking back more than a few weeks so all they are interested in is that they've got their jab, who the masked fukcin' singer is and that the pubs open next week.

The Labour vote is predicted to go up, so not sure how you can use this as a stick to beat Starmer with? Labour need to stand firm behind Starmer, even if they poll badly here and in the local elections, as the Corbynites told us Blairites to do.....many didn't but I did as I know who the real enemy is! Eventually the tide will turn but it will take much longer if the left continues to fight amongst themselves. Learn some lessons from the Tories....it's about winning elections not the sixth form common room debate!

At the 2019 General Election I think that people in the North East woke up to the fact that Labour has dominated for many years with little or nothing to show for it. We were the manufacturing, heavy engineering heartland of the UK, and that's all gone whilst under decades of local Labour administration for instance Baird couldn't, or wouldn't, save Redcar steel when Blair was PM. The Tories dominance has come about purely on the "I want change" vote as it couldn't be any worse, or can it, only time will tell? In truth this region has been thoroughly neglected since the end of WWII by all parties and taken for granted to secure Westminster seats so is it time for the Giant Hercules to be been reawakened?
