They blamed non existent foreigners for all their woes rather than those in parliament making the decisions.I was surprised about hanging of the Monkey, because it had a blue jacket on!
The people I have met from Hartlepool have all been decent people, similar to people from the Boro, possibly a bit more inward looking, not having the Irish immigration that Middlesbrough had.
The immigration stats are interesting I would guess Hartlepool and Redcar have around 2% immigration and for the EU immigtration probaly less than 1%, so why would they vote BREXIT to keep people out of the UK from the EU?
My take is that its a deep underlying anger that was the prime driving force - the anger coming from a lack of job opportunities, having to rely on Government welfare, resentment from seeing what it was like and how it is now, resentment from seeing people's wealth is say the South East grow and not so in Hartlepool. Blaming those in power over the last 40 years, in Hartlepool that is more the Labour Party.
The Labour Party has to start loving its left behind regions and help them back to better health, rather than blaming them for voting for Brexit and treating them as some sort of Alf Garnett.
Betfair is now 1.20 for the Tories

She may as well - no scrutiny and polls saying she'll win easilyI imagine the Tory candidate will also duck any form of hustings/debate with the other candidates. In fact, she'll run a mile.
People still blame Labour for many things despite the Tories bring in government for 11 years, so I agree with youFor a very long time people places like Hartlepool have been blaming "the foreign invasion" for their own plight and for a decade it has suited the Tories/UKIP/Brexit Party to push this narrative as it masks the reality of why.
It is so much easier to use an unknown as a device of fear and division, it also sticks in the mind way better than politicians using facts or figures.
It will take a very long time for facts to breakdown the barriers in people's minds that prevented any form of reasoning the majority dismissed so easily when blaming the EU for everything.
When nothing changes that anger will turn on those who said life will be good after Brexit for all those who believe, but as I keep saying, it's just going to take a long time.
Blaming the Labour Party for the last 40 years. Are they really that stupid?I was surprised about hanging of the Monkey, because it had a blue jacket on!

I think it does, it's a low bar though. In the last census in 2011, only two towns in the NE had significant levels of diversity and they were Newcastle and Middlesbrough.Think Redcar and Cleveland has the lowest
