Happy Australia Day!

I have to say that the worst racism I have experienced, certainly in the last 15 years, has been in Australia. People I considered enlightened liberals seemed to have a blind spot when it came to discussing the 'Abbo's' (apologies for the term). I was asked to leave a house for speaking what I know to be the truth by a colleague, who actually reported to me at the time. That gave me an idea of their understanding of the situation.
This was in 2018, not sure of things have improved since then.

Yes, I've had experience of this too. A family friend came here a few years ago and the extent of his naked racism was really shocking but apparently such views were the norm over there.

I've experienced the racism from some Aussies (akin to southern US states), but I've also experienced massive efforts to support and protect indigenous people too by the vast majority of Aussies.
Australia is a great country.

'The norm' - a stupid comment. It has racists the same any country or England but they're a tiny minority usually from the 'not so smart' areas. Australia is a fully multicultural country, the big cities populated from countries all over the planet - far more so than England. People generally live in harmony and all come to enjoy the lifestyle and great forward looking optimism the country has. The aboriginal question is a completely different kettle of fish, very complex and probably impossible to solve no matter how many government programs there are to address past grievances - no-one can turn the clocks back on how they were treated. Again it's only a small number of the indigenous who are militant - most are just part of everyday life. Australia Day is a great day marks the end of summer holidays and yes the date should not be fixed to 26th Jan - it'll probably just be moved to the nearest Friday to take away the contentiousness of it.

I have to say that the worst racism that I have experienced in the last fifty odd years has been when I have returned to my homeland, England.
Even at the highest level of society racism remains. One only has to look at some members of the current royal family for proof of that.

One has to keep in mind that it was the British government that enslaved its own peoples for minor crimes and sent them to Australia where they
were eventually granted ownership of aboriginal land and the freedom to rid " their land" of its indigenous peoples.

Every country around the world with connections to the former British Empire has past injustices to redress.

I don’t disagree. You might also add the French, Italian, Belgian and German empires to that list.

I agree and sadly I've witnessed racism in every country that I have visited but the encouraging thing is that it has
been, in general, the elderly generations and not the younger generations with those thoughts and views.

My wife is a high school teacher here in Oz and it brings a tear of pride to my eye when we go to school events and ceremonies
as I witness the togetherness and friendship of the students from all parts of the globe with their different cultures and religious backgrounds.

I live in hope ,that the entire populated world, will one day be a multicultural one.
A world that sees no need for violence, starvation, wars or religious hatred.

It may well not be in my lifetime but if the kids that I have mentioned pass on their wisdom to younger generations then that time will definitely come.
