Hancock wants Teesside in Tier 3

Preston wants another piece of the pie. He’s not bothered about the areas being in tier 3, he, like Burnham, just wants the cash.

If as much effort was put into ensuring the initial lockdown was effective in the first place then it wouldn’t have been so easy for it to get out of control again, and we’d all have some sense of normality in our lives.
Or the pair of them could be listening to business leaders in their respective cities and towns and understand that lockdowns without financial support that we saw in April is economic suicide.

No it's current numbers Vs last year's numbers .. the media saying it's full whilst denying the reality coops.

They have said its nearly full which would be correct per the percentages. An influx of covid cases (which last year didnt exist) would push it past breaking point. I understand what your saying with last years numbers but knowing how fast covid spreads this year could easily outstrip it.

They aren't saying what could happen they are claiming it's what IS happening this is a lie.

Nothing will improve until the large percentage of people currently not behaving sensibly begin to realise the advice includes them. It’s really not that difficult but a large proportion of the population are clearly thick or stupid.
You are actually the thick, ignorant one with a comment like that and represent a nodding dog population who swallow anything they say because it isn’t your business and your livelihood being wrecked.. How high is that horse you are on.

The initial lockdown was too late and we suffered too many deaths as a result.
However, it did work in collapsing the R rate, cases, hospital admissions and deaths. Another lockdown will obviously suppress the virus and help the NHS cope, as the search for vaccines and treatments continues.
We came out of the last one too abruptly; we should have emerged in a more cautious way AND with a Track & Trace programme that actually worked.
Regrettably I think it is inevitable that we will go into another lockdown, without having learned how to effectively re-emerge and still without a T&T scheme.
More regrettably, the economic support in a second lockdown (local or national) is already scandalously proving less generous and I'm not sure there will be any better practical support for those who suffered other physical and mental health adversity during the first lockdown.

We have the national politicians at odds and the Govt at odds with the Local politicians.
Labour nationally are at odds with the local Labour figures.
It is unhelpful to have UK nations with different policies and approaches.
We are in stark need of real leadership and consensus.
We have the exact opposite.

I don't want a Tier 3 lockdown, I actually think that it will do more harm than good for the overall mental & physical health of Teesside, however if I was a pub or restaurant right now I'd be willing it on.

How the f*** have we got to a stage 7 months into 'fighting' a virus that we have 4 countries in a union all doing seperate things and now we have England splitting up into mini republics to fight back against the government.

I despair at the utter buffonery that has caused all this.

Exactly....in times of crisis, it doesn't help to have the equivalent of Mr Pastry running the country...

it's 4 devolved self governed countries - why would you expect them all to do the same thing?

buffonery - I presume you mean Boris ? Cause that's what he is, a complete and utter buffoon.

I know they're all devolved but you would expect some cohesion between all four.
I think BJ has made an absolute mess of Englands response but the other leaders don't get away with it in my opinion.
Sturgeon has used this whole situation to play a political game of oneupmanship right from the off.

Is there any evidence that Tier 3 lockdowns work I haven’t seen any figures from Liverpool or Lancashire that show what impact the tightening of restrictions have had on the spread of the virus, and what’s the road map to ease those restrictions without increasing the infection rate ? What is happening in cities and areas that are still in Tier 1, what are they doing differently that’s controlling the spread of infection ? are the differences environmental, cultural, social or are there better controls in place ? Has the wearing of masks made a difference ?

I have been critical of the time we originally took to go into lockdown but now it seems we are just knee jerking into tighter restrictions as a default without looking at the effectiveness of these measures or alternative ways of managing the spread of the virus, the issue has become politicised and divided, I think a cross party committee should have been involved from day one given the uniqueness of the situation, strong leadership is taking views from all corners and picking the best of them to formulate the best solution.

You are missing the point. A virus will do what a virus wants. Delaying the inevitable isn't controlling a virus.

True, but if a vaccine does become available early 2021 then they have managed it perfectly and saved thousands of lives
