So a free agent now after not renewing his contract with Bristol City.. recently turned down Burnley due to lack of game time,

Interestingly enough due to his age Bristol City are due compensation for his development.. if he moves to Europe then that will be in the region of £260,000.. but if he stays in England then the fee is the jurisdiction of the Professional Football Compensation Committee (PFCC) - including appointees from the Premier League, EFL, PFA and LMA - which makes for a more nuanced ruling which does take into account far more factors around market value, status of the respective, the value of the contract offered and potential future playing time. City will be required to present what they believe is Massengo’s market value, the club he has signed for will also present a figure and then an agreement can be met, or it will go to a hearing.

At the highest end of that scale to date, in 2019, Fulham received £1.5m in compensation from Liverpool for signing Harvey Elliott when he was out of contract, but have since been provided with a further £2.8m in contingent sums due to the fact he was 16 at the time, and the decision took into account how much it was projected he could play for the Reds.

How on earth do you sign a player that is £300k to £1.5m+? and what if he ends up being LOADS more and you juct can't afford him?

We are sinking fast we need a different kind of noah
Bristol fans will be quick to admit that the Frenchman is a thrilling player full of technical quality, energy and the ability to influence a game despite his age.

His most notable skill is the way he glides around the pitch whilst carrying the ball, which could make him a perfect bridge between defence and attack.

He completed an impressive 91% of his passes when playing 181 minutes for Monaco in the Champions League at the age of 18.

He shows a preference for short passing and ball retention, completing 86% of his passes in Ligue 1 last season and playing one key pass per game.

Massengo's energy when pressing, his preference to play it simple and keep the ball and the ability to drive into space to open teams up in transition is exactly what the system requires.

Goals and assists are significantly absent from his game but that can be a trait that develops as a box-to-box midfielder matures.

He’s pretty much the player we all wanted Martin Payero to be, he fits the model and could step up to the premier league.
