Gyokores?

Nobody has a clue who is really serious about Spence, or Gyokeres, or what fees they will be eventually sold.
I think Gyokeres is a much better footballer than Spence.
Really? I think it's overwhelmingly likely that one will be playing for a top 6 club in the champions league next season, the other still in the championship and there's good reason for that.

That's not to say I don't think Gyorkores would be a great signing for us, but let's have some proper perspective on this.

I don’t think there is any chance at all of us spending huge fees on one player again whilst we’re in this league. Been stung once too often to go down that route again and i don’t think Gibson will sanction those type of eggs in one basket signings any more, and rightly so. Let’s build a team that isn’t reliant on one marquee signing

However much we end up spending on a striker, I think the signings so far suggest that we are indeed building a team that isn't reliant on one marquee signing.
As will the additions of Darlow, Gayle & McGoldrick.

2 marquee signings it is then if you count Gayle as one .👍
Gayle and Armstrong loans would mean no big fees but we need to buy atleast one striker as loan fees is money down the drain if promotion isn’t achieved .
The Ipswich and Coventry lads appear to be where our money will go right now unless we sign another foreign player

Let's wait and see where each ends up. Do you really think Spence will be playing in the Champions League for Spurs? Spence if he signs for Spurs, will be on the bench, not on the pitch.
There's no certainty that a PL club will not sign Gyokeres and that he will get plenty of game time.

I hope we sign Gyokeres and he shows his quality.
Spence? I couldn't care less where he goes, as long as he goes for as much money as possible.

Gyokores (last 3 seasons)
101 games
27 goals

Joao (last 3 seasons)
79 games
35 goals

Gyokores is a handful and quality striker but his stats for goalscoring are poorer than Joao's.

Joao has an injury reputation but he still scored 8 more goals than injury free Gyokores in the same period.

As I’ve posted lots before I’d sign them both.

A key issue is we could buy Joao now.

Gyokores will need us to sell Spence for a major fee. I suspect Coventry would take £12m to £15m, if its £15m its quite a gamble. I remember Brentford paying £13m for Toney and I thought he was excellent, a step above Gyokores.

The key to me is having strikers in place for next season, I am not looking beyond that. I am happy to have loan strikers if they are good, like we had with Bamford and Ramirez in 2015 and 2016.

It depends where you see them both in 20/21, 21/22, and where they're going too?

Joao is good (and would be a good signing), but at 28, I think he may have peaked, and Gyokeres looks like he's clearly on the way up.

Gyokeres caused us (with a good defence) more trouble than any striker I've seen playing at this level, for years.

I see it like the below, suppose Joao could maintain this level for a few years, or he might drop off, but Gyokeres is going to the Premiership I think, might not be this year, but could be next year if he joins us. Coventry probably can't get to the prem with him in the side, as they don't have much cash, so need to sell him to fund about 3/4 other positions by the sounds of things. It's similar to us with Spence, we need the money to fund other areas, more than we need the player.

Obviously Gyokeres would have sell on value too, whereas someone older probably wouldn't, unless we're just thinking of using them for a year, to get us up, then upgrade. But if doing that, a loan makes more sense/ less risk.

"Transfer swoop...."

You don't get 'swoops' like you used to. More likely to be a counter-productive, summer-long game via agents/the media.
