Greenwood

I can’t see him playing for Man Utd again tbh

I would be very surprised. Think they're conducting an internal investigation or something aren't they? Wouldn't be shocked if they terminated his contract. Too toxic for their brand now, regardless of how talented he is.

The bar to prosecute in criminal proceedings for serious offences is very high "beyond all reasonable doubt".

But I think Man United would be on pretty safe ground going down dismissal for gross misconduct or breach of contract if their investigation finds it was likely on balance he committed rape or even a lesser offence. Evidence is in the public domain. While it might not be conclusive, it's a pretty damning reflection on him.

I can only assume to post that opening post Huddboro does not have daughters? Greenwood’s behaviour was appalling from a bloke many youngsters idolised and subsequently would be influenced by. He appears to be a young man you would hope and pray your daughter never meets. He is now subject to an internal investigation by Man United who have to consider employment law rather than criminal law in making their decision. If you heard and read the details of this case when it was available there is no way Man Utd could ever see him playing for them again. Hopefully he will go through a period of rehabilitation and genuinely reflect and regret his actions and commit to supporting programmes aimed at challenging misogyny and denigration of women. For now the only good thing to come out if this is the hope young men influenced by the Andrew Tate’s of this world will see there are consequences for assaulting women no matter who you are. By the way, the successful prosecution rate for rape in this country should shame us all.

It’s not the same but I can’t help to draw parallels between this and the caroline Flack assault case.
Her boyfriend the main witness stopped cooperating or refused to give a statement, the cps recommended a caution but the police appealed that decision.

It just seems odd that the police haven’t got enough evidence, given what we’ve heard to charge mason greenwood with or without his girlfriends cooperation.
Agree with the parallels, hadn't thought of them before now. Obviously different police forces and genders involved, something not consistent here and dare I say some unconscious bias and or outside pressure?

For Greenwood to fight any case on the grounds of wrongful dismissal would risk this getting more publicity, so he would be best to leave Man Utd if he wants to try and resurrect any sort of a career?

Although he's not going to get anything remotely close to his current salary anywhere else so he might think it's worth it?

Galatasaray on a free with a massive sell on clause. So they take his £9m+ contract over and with a 50% sell on clause £20m would be buttons for someone like Roma. Zenit Saint Petersburg wouldn’t be an option.. a few seasons of sportswashing and I would be surprised to see him at Newcastle.
It might not even take that long. Plenty of creeps and crime in the game.

Innocent of all charges, all been dropped. Absolutely horrendous that people can be dragged into the spotlight without any evidence. Should be blanket reporting ban until guilty.
Strong rumours that even with the no chance of conviction ruling the charges could remain on file. Also Man Utd are wanting to sack him for breach of contract for bringing the club into disrepute.

By all accounts the lady in question said in April last year that she did not wish to him to be prosecuted and would not give evidence. The police continued the case as they considered her to be a 'vulnerable witness'.

The new material which has come to light must be significant but I guess we will never find out what it was.

It is bizarre isn’t it.
The police do not have enough evidence to prosecute him

They don’t have enough evidence to prosecute me, you or anyone else on this thread.

Yet, according to many on here, Greenwood is a rapist, belongs behind bars, is a dreadful human being et al.
And, all the assumptions trotted out about why charges are dropped are just daft guesses.
There was enough evidence hence the trial date being set for october. Certain witnesses pulled out from giving evidence. The CPS no longer have enough evidence to test in front of a jury.
It would be now be a waste of time proceeding.
