Great news - Well done Tees Valley Mayor Ben Houchen & business secretary Kwasi Kwarteng

Are you just counting the unemployment figures or are we allowed to add in all the people working full-time jobs receiving in-work benefits?

Without a liveable wage what is the point of work?
Unemployed.
Better employed ultimately for everybody wouldn't you agree?

Living wage is a joke agreed.

You started a thread calling out another poster, I.e being massive troll.

It's not that hard to work out why you've been placed on the naughty step, it doesn’t take anyone reporting you.
If you are going to insult me try harder than Troll, that's so passé. After over 20 years on here that's not even a 1 out of 100. Ask Corky the bigot, he knows how to throw them around, the poorer you are the nastier the insult. I am sure he will get you up to the 70/100 in no time.

I don't need to insult you, you do a good enough job of that yourself.

No. Absolutely not.

If there isn't enough work available to keep everyone gainfully employed then bring in some form of UBI and let people decide to use their time how they want.

Some might want to work and can therefore fill the available vacancies. Someone else might be able to do something creative.

Instead of slaving away for peanuts and being too burnt out to try, they may add something outstanding to the sum of human achievement.

If there is work to be done then pay a proper living wage that doesn't incude government subsidies when profits are in the billions.

I've no problem with subsidies where they help grow smaller businesses but e.g. Amazon should be paying staff properly.

Corbyn, who I voted for, was a disaster, twice.
He came very close to being able to form a government in 2017. That was despite all the 'sensibles' deserting the front benches in a fit of pique.

2019 should have seen them come back into the fold and really push on for a win. They decided to go the other way. Now they want me to forget about that whilst ripping out any decent left-wing policy e.g. nationalisation.

It stinks.

He never learns, a bitter old fool who thinks nothing of throwing smears and lies and plays the victim card.

Quite possibly the nastiest piece of work that's been on this board or the last.
I switch between annoyance at him and pity for someone who may not be mentally well, some of his bizarre hate filled ramblings sound more like they belong in a mental hospital than a football message board. But on occasion he seems slightly more lucid and there may be the semblance of a point in his narrative.

Unless it is related to Germany of course, then it is more akin to hate speech.

Love this @Scrote. We can dream mate, hopefully the next generation can do better than we have.

UBI has its pros and it's cons and whilst in favour of it previously during the initial stages of the pandemic I'm not sure if the pros outweigh the cons. There are jobs out there right now that people don't want to do, the amount of those jobs is only going to increase with the introduction of a UBI scheme. But then on the Pro side of that people will actually go out and train for a job they are super passionate about without having to worry about food, bills etc.

Personally, our household is given a sum off of the government every month through universal credit. We've only been on it for three months and I'm not afraid to admit it has been a great help to our household and family life. Am I slightly embarrassed that we get a payment every month? Absolutely. But if the help is there then I'm damn sure going to accept it.

Should workplaces pay more? Absolutely. But I don't see the concrete connection to a Tory run government? If another party comes into power, sooner rather than later I hope may I add, are companies going to start paying people more because of some government led white paper? I doubt it.

Who brought in the minimum wage?

Who do you think (as a party) are more likely to try and do something about zero hour contracts or try to limit the power of unions to protect their members/us.

One party prioritises profits for businesses, the other, whilst by no means perfect is definitely more of an 'up the workers' party.

Always have been, always will be. The fact the MSM and increasingly think tanks, Russian money, ad agencies and social media try to make you think otherwise is a sham, the Tories whole raison d'être is to enrich the top 5%, Labour for all its failures and faults and trying to appeal to the middle ground is trying to do their best for us.

You, and the general population of these isles need to ask themselves, do I have more in common with people like Angela Raynor and Andy Burnham or Jacob Reese-Mogg and Boris Johnson.

We have a party leadership election and one of things as being seen as a positive is to bring back is fox hunting FFS. That is a vote winner to be the top Tory and eek your way into being PM.

This is our country not theirs. We should be fighting tooth and nail to not lose our hard fought gains post WWII, unfortunately it would seem the majority of the country would all rather spout the media driven 'they're all the same' and roll off their Missus and go back to watching Love Island.

I'm gutted with our apathy, I sort of wish I was French.

You would have got more under the old scheme. Having worked in benefits for 20 years I can honestly say that Universal Credit is the single worst thing that has come along since I started.

What is also noticeable how many people who are working are on it. Some earnings more than me. It is just propping up poor wages.

There doesn't need to be a 'Magic Money Tree' just the 'Magic Money Seed' that you plant and that over time creates a 'Magic Money Forest' this may lead to short pain but if people can see the green shoots beginning to sprout and start to feel the benefit then they won't mind.

There needs to be an overhaul of expenditure, moves towards self sufficiency and a refocus on how we reform the economy with sensible long term investments into markets that will grow and subsidise and self sustain, for example building clean power stations to provide cheaper electricity is a great investment as long as you keep it in house, offering subsidies to other foreign nationalised power companies at the expense of UK consumers is utter madness.

What the Conservative's do very well is what I call Fruit Machine policy, the fruit machine will return 80% of all it takes, so the Fruit Machine gambler will invest £10 and get £8 back, his mindset is that he's happy to have £8 in his pocket failing to see that in real terms he's £2 worse off, the slow erosion of disposable income and a series of economic hits are beginning to impact more and more people, they still think everything is ok as they're off to a 3 Star in Majorca for a week forgetting that only a little while ago they were off to a 5 star Barbados in for a fortnight, people love to deal in absolutes and until they have nothing they don't recognise the problem.
