Great news - Well done Tees Valley Mayor Ben Houchen & business secretary Kwasi Kwarteng

The utterly unironic 'it's time for a fresh start' they are coming out with is sickening, or Rishi declaring he'll get a hold of the economy etc. How anyone can fall for this nonsense is utterly beyond me. More then half of the current Tory 'leading lights' are nearer to deserving lynching or imprisonment rather than another crack at running the country.

They need someone who wasn't in the Cabinet but they are failing at that too. It's just the same old rubbish. They banged taxes up and all were in the media saying how great it was and how it was fair - 3 months later they are all backpedaling because Tories like tax cuts.

I honestly don't know how members of the public can vote for any of the current crop of Tories. All they do is fight amongst themselves and wreck the country in the process. And if they aren't doing that they are touching someone up or fiddling their taxes.

What a truly disgusting bunch.

100% this.

The only thing they are actually good at in an organisational sense is self-publicity.

They'll tell you that they are the low tax party - taxes are at a historical high

They'll tell you that they got us through Covid - 180K deaths

Bunch of charlatans.

I didn't make any comment on Starmer or whether I'd be voting Labour.

I was merely pointing out that the position of Starmer's politics (as they've so far been demonstrated) isn't centre-left.

These things matter if we're going to have an honest discussion about what we're voting for.
Sorry I wasnt having a go at you personally, just to try to draw attention to the constant in fighting and bickering within the Labour party and its supporters which is costing them time and time again

I am not sure that Society as a whole has got its head round the whole "working poverty" thing, to many people it just doesnt make sense because they have no ability to view something from other than their own viewpoint and experience.

Let me tell you about a group of people who understand working poverty in all its intimate detail, The Conservative Party and its leaders.

This is a well executed (pardon the pun) long term plan, augmented by the heinous Austerity cuts, which have disproportionately affected the lower and middle working classes, followed up by a pincer movement aimed at the Middle classes (who dont consider them selves to be "working class" anymore, perish the though, ) to get them to believe that its the fault of the people in poverty for being in poverty, so that no one notices the big steal, and to further the aspirational illusion that if they continue to look the other way, then they too can aspire to have their noses in the trough

high employment, stratospheric company profits and stakeholder dividends, whilst the average working wage continues to fall, and people working full time jobs slip into poverty needing assistance and food banks etc.

but sure, keep pedalling the "well just get a better job then" or "just work harder then" horseshiat, people working 40 hours a week should not be in poverty in any developed nation. What we are effectively saying is that, we as a society need this work to be done, in shops, restaurants, factories, and hospitals, but that the people who do them do not deserve to live outside the crushing load of being in poverty, because we must protect the "free market" and shareholder dividends at all costs.

I would sooner talk about Houchen & plants/projects that are happening than talk negativity about Houchen & plants/projects that dont happen, but each to their own
Always nice to focus on the positives but worth remembering the tory party which these posts are promoting are responsible for unprecedented levels of deprivation in our area, child poverty is rising significantly, millions are using food banks. Not exactly hard to see why people would take these posts the wrong way

Making life significantly harder for almost everyone but offsetting that with a bit of investment in the area really isnt anything positive and worth celebrating

To be fair to Corbyn Labour Fail, he had a lot, about six a day, which changed the following day, then another six and on and on. Brexit alone he was a leaver, then maybe not, then yes a leaver.

Due to the ongoing dunces seat admin have put me on the above post I sent at around 8pm last night.

From what I understand one or two of the Far(ce) left went crying to headmaster saying I was too tough on them. Bless.

It's OK for the Far(ce) left to call the working class: Stupid, feeble ( a little classic), imbeciles ( another little classic), ignorant, thick as mince but wrong to argue against it.

Left Wing my a rse.

No worries. I just wanted to clarify my position.

The problem with holding my nose and voting for Starmer's version of Labour is stuff like this, though:

He should be explaining why the past 40 years of Thatcher-esque "balancing the UK household budget" rhetoric is economic illiteracy.

Instead he jumps on the same old band-wagon and we go round again.

Inept doesn't begin to describe it.

Lead, don't follow.

All you seem to do these days is spout bile and hate, then moan about bile and hate, and god help anyone who isn't part of the brexit cult.
You just seem so entrenched and bitter these days

Who is the woman operating this android? She's quite good at it.

Because if he did the attack dogs in the Tory Media would be all over it like a rash. "Labour to go on spending spree" etc.

This is real politics where you have to be careful when you are not preaching to the converted. I think most people would like to see us address the poverty in this country, it is utterly shameful that we have anyone having to rely on charity to feed themselves and their children, that it is now happening to people with full time jobs is beyond my scope of understanding. We have nurses using foodbanks. I mean FFS.

But, the media is a hostile environment and in my humble opinion Starmer is doing what he has to do, to simply make sure that the spotlight remains upon the disintegration of the Tory Party. Never interrupt your enemy when they are making a mistake. Wellington was it? Perhaps Sun Tzu? Or was it Benny Hill...

Not from me. I'm happy to have serious (and heated) debates but I'm not one for spitting the old dummy out.

Corbyn's policies were some of the most stable and consistent we've had from any political party for a long time. I'll agree that the WASPI announcement was badly timed, but it was the right thing to do.

Corbyn also understood that the UK relationship with the EU was far more complex than IN/OUT and didn't hide that fact. He didn't change his position throughout his leadership though (unless you have evidence otherwise?).

Starmer based his leadership campaign on a series of pledges that he has already gone against. Probably the most important being the nationalisation of all the industries that are currently ripping off UK consumers. Why are you not bothered by that if you care so much about some imagined terror that Corbyn wrought?

But it can be dealt with in a manner which deflects from that.

Instead of asking where they've got the Magic Money Tree from why not just ask why the Tories are acting (or making proposals) in a manner consistent with Modern Monetary Theory?

Then maybe do a quick explainer that the UK budget isn't a household budget. Treat the electorate like adults.

Otherwise we just go into another cycle of borrow/spend and blame the last lot for 'bankrupting' the country (as the Tory on Politics NE did yesterday with zero interruption from the host).

I never said you were bring too tough, I proved you to be a liar and smearing me saying I was laughing at mental illness when I did no such thing.

You didn't have the decency to even retract it or apologise despite me putting a private message to you and admin.

You're a proven liar and a nasty piece of work with it, then you pretend you're the victim and that people have a go at you for no reason.

If I had been admin you'd have been gone a long time ago, it's no surprise there are many, many posters who have you on the ignore button having been on the end of your vitriolic cr@p.

Exactly, a good political leader should have a set of beliefs and ideas that he is proud of and be prepared to present them to the electorate and win the argument. This thing about lying until you get elected doesn't do it for me.

Scrote, believe it or not our politics are pretty much the same. But I am fed up of seeing blue all over the map on election nights. Corbyn, who I voted for, was a disaster, twice. We lost seats that were in unloseable, (if that's a word), to a party who had given us 10 years of unnecessary austerity, headed by a bloke who was a thug.

If you had asked me before COVID could we return utilities back into public hands I would have said no. I was wrong.

I have tried to tell people the UK economy is not a household, you explained it well.

I am accused of using bile, I attack one bloke who called me a bigot, I have been on here over 20 years I have never ever written any message that could be used in that way. You can call me thick, fat, miserable, but racist or bigot, never.

The bloke in question wrote the following; I will get a whistle to use during the national anthem, f the monarchy. There is only one bigot here.

I get exactly what you are saying, buy if you don't vote for him, and by extension the Labour Party, or dont vote at all, then you might as well vote for whichever lukewarm cadaver is put forward as the next Tory party leader.

You started a thread calling out another poster, I.e being massive troll.

It's not that hard to work out why you've been placed on the naughty step, it doesn’t take anyone reporting you.
