Last time that I saw them live they were playing at the Nick Sanderson tribute gig with British Sea Power and Black Box Recorder at The Camden Ballroom and William looked like a beachball and seemed to have forgotten how to play all of his own songs so Jim was yelling at him all of the time. It was still a great gig though even though the sound was sh*t from where I was standing. I nearly got thrown out though but that lad had it coming to him. The security guy told me that he knew why I'd done it but if I did it again he'd have no choice but to chuck me out.

She wears denim wherever she goes

I've only been there once to see Teenage Fanclub and the sound wasn't great either. Best place to stand at a gig is as near as you can get to the sound check guys or girls.

On the National Express there's a jolly hostess
Selling crisps and tea
She'll provide you with drinks and theatrical winks
For a sky-high fee
Mini-skirts were in style when she danced down the aisle
Back in '63 (yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah)
But it's hard to get by when your **** is the size
Of a small country

National Express by The Divine Comedy.

Like graveyards filled with tombstones, waiting for their names

Saw TFC live a few times. They were always great. Not too keen on the later albums though. But everything up to Songs From Northern Britain is fine by me. We were stood right at the front by the PA at that Mary Chain Gig and the sound was alright for BSP but it was awful for Black Box Recorder for some reason. I had my hands on the barrier with my girlfriend in front of me and this @rsehole kept smashing in to me during the Mary Chain set so he was jostling her at the same time so I threw a well timed elbow and the security guy saw it and gave me a bit of a telling off. I was just trying to protect her and he knew that. And the @rsehole didn't do it again so it did the trick.

"
Standing by the wayside, begging for a ride
I been waiting so long, a year has gone
Look at all the people, strangers every one
I've been looking so long, a year has gone

You were all I lived for, I guess my life is through
I've been living so long, I can't go on
Lonely Sunday morning, rest in peace, my love
You been sleeping so long, a year has gone

How could I ever start to tell you
The end is almost here?
The song of love is ringing in my ears
Playing loud, playing clear
The song will never change
The memory will always be so near

Standing by the wayside, begging for a ride
I been waiting so long, a year has gone"

great solo as well - another gem on a superb album

And I've run out of pale ale
And I feel like I'm in jail
And my music bores me once again
And I've been on the pinball
And I know longer know it all
And they say that you never know when you're insane
Got fleas in my bedroom
Got flies in my bathroom
And the cat just finished off the bread
So I walk over Soho
And I read about Monroe
And I wonder was she really what they said
Got a call from a good friend
Come on down for the weekend
Didn't know if I could spare the time
I knew a woman who was crazy
About a boy who was lazy
But it didn't work out 'cos they just couldn't make it rhyme
Hey Jude you were alright
I could have grooved with you all night
But you turned your back on the part again
Mama if i keep my head clean
Will I really have a good dream
Or will I wake up in confusion just the same
And I've run out of pale ale
And I feel like I'm in jail
Got fleas in the bedroom
Got flies in the bathroom
Got a call from a good friend
Come on down for the weekend
Hey Jude you were alright
I could have grooved with you all night
And I've been on the pale ale
And I feel like a pinball

These are great lyrics, and for me they’re about someone’s loved one dying from cancer, the drugs are chemo, not about drugs as was said at the time. I’ve been there and can identify with every line. Rumour has it a certain Gallagher brother helped a lot writing the album.

All this talk of getting old
It's getting me down my love
Like a cat in a bag, waiting to drown
This time I'm comin' down

And I hope you're thinking of me
As you lay down on your side
Now the drugs don't work
They just make you worse
But I know I'll see your face again

Now the drugs don't work
They just make you worse
But I know I'll see your face again

But I know I'm on a losing streak
'Cause I passed down my old street
And if you wanna show, then just let me know
And I'll sing in your ear again

Now the drugs don't work
They just make you worse
But I know I'll see your face again

'Cause baby, ooo, if heaven falls, I'm coming, too
Just like you said, you leave my life, I'm better off dead

All this talk of getting old
It's getting me down my love
Like a cat in a bag, waiting to drown
This time I'm comin' down

Now the drugs don't work
They just make you worse
But I know I'll see your face again

'Cause baby, ooo, if heaven falls, I'm coming, too
Just like you said, you leave my life, I'm better off dead

But if you wanna show, just let me know
And I'll sing in your ear again

Now the drugs don't work
They just make you worse
But I know I'll see your face again

Yeah, I know I'll see your face again
Yeah, I know I'll see your face again
Yeah, I know I'll see your face again
Yeah, I know I'll see your face again

I'm never going down, I'm never coming down
No more, no more, no more, no more, no more
I'm never coming down, I'm never going down
No more, no more, no more, no more, no more
I'm never going down, I'm never coming down
No more, no more, no more, no more, no more
I'm never coming down, I'm never going down
No more, no more, no more, no more, no more
I'm never coming down, I'm never going down
No more, no more, no more, no more, no more

I would like to see a passionate affair between the two ugliest people in the world
when I say ugly
i don’t mean rough looking
i mean hideous

ugly by the stranglers

James seemed to foresee this current government , back in the early 90s:-

Break down the government walls
Speak in tongues, power is money
I see our interests fall
Well behind their curtain
Break down the government walls
Infiltrate our television
Break down the government walls
Time to be outspoken
I can hear the sound of falling masonry
As they try to plug that leak
I am tempted by their cloak of secrecy
To find out what their games are about
Ask a question and they'll talk of secret services
Secrets from the people they should serve
When they can hide their crimes in a legal disguise
Truth will not be seen nor heard

Chasing love with the sun in your opponents eyes, he's blinded by it.
He had a special one and never even realised it.
I knew that he would break his promise.
And patiently I waited for it.
Sometimes I hate myself for all my selfish ways but I can't help it.
I love you more each day.
