Not a phrase I use very often I’ll admit but “darkest hour“ is a brilliant film ( not a documentary and it does play fast and loose with history) and Gary oldman’s portrayal of winston is remarkable.

I watched it yesterday funnily enough, didn’t know it was on tv today - wasn’t as good as I thought it would be

Good film apart from the scene in the tube. There is no way Winston Churchill would have done that.
 
No that’s fiction The producer said they put that in to give an idea of why he was thinking as he was and what was motivating him.
 
In Richard E Grant's autobiography *, published 24 years ago, he refers to Oldman as 'Britain's greatest living actor'. I thought that was tongue in cheek, at the time , but looks about right today.

Watched it last night and enjoyed it. Wonderful cinematography, beautifully shot throughout. I rather forgave it the Tube scene (which I knew was coming) as a story telling artifice. Not a great film but certainly a wonderful performance by Oldman. I think I would have cast Timothy Spall in the role personally. Worth watching certainly.
