Graham Potter Appointed Chelsea Manager on 5 Year Contract

I think the only 'big ego' he might struggle with is Aubameyang, he will have the support of the core English players like Sterling, Mount, James, Chilwell and obviously Cucurella.

I find this a bit disappointing. And I'm not convinced it's right for him or Chelsea. I suppose that last bit is a positive at least.
Agree, I think he's done an outstanding job at Brighton, but to replicate that at a big club, with big name players is a huge task. It took him 2 full seasons before he was able to turn Brighton around too, and he isn't going to get that time at Chelsea. His cup record is really bad and that won't be tolerated either.

Established Premier League club with a decent squad, probably one of the better jobs outside of the top clubs.
True, absolutely fantastic recruitment as well, they sell their best players and immediately have another one good to go.

Small stadium and historically not a Premier League club though, so you’d think they might revert to the mean of being a Champo club. They’re only where they are now because their manager is a bit of a genius; he would be their best asset.

I wonder if it’s a bit like taking over from Pulis at Stoke - totally different team, but same level of overachieving.

Their mean is tier 3/League One to be honest, they've had 7 top flight seasons and 24 second tier seasons in 100 years as a professional club.

They are well run now though, with a growing fan base, shame the stadium as the ass end of nowhere, if they have a fall from grace can local people be bothered with the hassle of travelling there?

I see Wilder hasn't ruled himself out of the Brighton job yet. Disgusting.
As soon as Chelsea lost on Tuesday the writing was on the wall for Tuchel.
Wilder had the perfect opportunity during his interview after the Sunderland match to explicitly rule himself out of any vacancies which develop as a result of the imminent Tuchel departure.
He chose not to, which is worrying.
DID HE LEARN NOTHING FROM THE BURNLEY DEBACLE??!!

😂😂

“Attitude over abiliteh and I will not be taking the managers job at any club which may or may not become vacant in the near or distant future, so calm down FMTTM Karens”

Don't think we need to worry about Wilder for a while (appreciate most posts are very much tongue in cheek).

His recent record is relegation from the premier League, finishing outside the play-offs and then a poor start to this season. Think most fans of PL clubs would be underwhelmed at best.

Probably the only good thing about our cack start (results-wise) to the season. He's probably in less demand than he has been for a while. Pretty optimistic he'll turn it around like. But until that happens I doubt anyone will seriously be sniffing around.

Trying to think who the last English manager was who got his step up like this.

Hodgson at Liverpool? But that was before they were top four. Rodgers and Moyes don’t count. Redknapp at Spurs? Steve Mac, Boro to England??

I suppose successs at Chelsea will fall in line with the next time the England job is available . Surely the first Englishman to win a title must get the England job .

Really interesting appointment. Nice to see a British manager working their way up get a job at a Champions League team (I don't include Lampard who only got the job due to his Chelsea connections). As much as I want Chelsea to fail if Potter is a 'success' (whatever that is there) then it might open up opportunities for other promising British managers.

Verbal agreement with Potter and they are already talking about his successor ?!?!? (at Chelsea btw)
