I think that's right. Definitely friction there. I think Bamba and Peltier have been good stopgap signings but the fact remains that we sent two full backs and a centre back out on loan all of which could have been used as cover during this period so Warnock and club can have few complaints over an injury crisis when they have exacerbated it by sending squad players out on loan.
I would say improvements were made to the squad, our big issues was with injuries to key players. Dijksteel, Hall, Fry & Bola

Folks on here will say Spence is the best thing since sliced bread, probably the same folks that said on here he wasn't worth a light. We had Dijksteel & Fisher playing in his position and looked like we wouldn't have had a problem. Peltier was more than adequate for back up to Dijksteel.

Wood needed games and was way behind Fry, McNair and Hall for a starting place. Bamba was brought in but never really expected to play games (one or two maybe)

Wood - Bamba
Akpom - Sporar
Spence - Peltier
Brynn - Stojanović
Robinson - Kokolo
Hackney - Hernandez
Wing - Siliki
Coulson - Jones
Burrell - Olusanya

I don't agree. Spence played well in the first three games of the season. Then he was shipped out on loan. Many disagreed with the loan move at the time. Yes he's no world beater but neither is Peltier as replacement reserve. We've had a problem with Fisher since July so it did look like we had a problem.

I don't agree with sending Wood, Spence and Coulson out on loan to incur more costs in getting Bamba, Peltier and Taylor (eventually) in. Just seems like madness. Bamba was fourth choice behind Fry, McNair and Hall yes, but does anyone really think he would only play one or two games? Fourth choice and only playing one or two games? Maybe if he was sixth choice. But given we've been forced to play 3-5-2 for about three quarters of our matches since Tony Pulis was the manager due to injuries at the back he was always going to be needed. The irony is with Wood that he's been sent out to get experience, has played 1 game yet Bamba has played 13. Recent seasons show that Fry, Djlksteel and Hall would suffer injuries so it's not like this could have possibly caught anyone by surprise.

Spence didn’t suit our plans as us at the time, Wood wasn’t the answer to our defensive problems and no one saw our first choice back four being injured.

Yet started 3 out of the first 5 matches.

No one saw our first choice back four being injured.
As previously stated, it was rather foolish of the club to not see this happening given the injury records of Dijksteel, Hall and Fry, and the fact we more often than not play with a wingback formation.

We started pre-season with 8 defenders, two for each position (+ Fisher who was already injured). We sent three out on loan and brought in two stopgaps.

Bola-Coulson
McNair-Hall
Fry-Wood (Bamba)
Dijksteel - Spence (Peltier)

When I worked in Darlo in the 80s I was always shocked at how many people there were in Newcastle shirts
The Brittania had a Geordie landlord at one point. Black and white tat all over the back end of the bar. Used to avoid sitting up there.

Worked with loads of Hartlepool lads over the years. Most have Newcastle as their first or second team. Think ive met one who liked Boro.
Add Liverpool and Man Utd to the list. I worked at Heerema for a while and it was nauseating to hear them all talk about their favourite 'big clubs'.

In fact a lad in the office wouldn't have TFM on the radio because in his words it meant 'Totally F***ing Middlesbrough' 🤣

Lot less Newcastle and Sunderland in both Pools and Darlo these days than back in the 70s and 80s bit more Boro but lots more big Prem teams
