Government to impose standard over 70’s isolation within weeks

no but my parents have already self imposed this, it is the right thing to do.....protect the vulnerable.
I understand the rationale but my father in law is 70 and fitter than me, he runs 5k every day and plays golf 3 times a week. Self isolation will affect in a number of ways mentally.

Fortunately the mother in law is 67 so at least she can go out and not bother him.

this is where we can all look after our elderly neighbours like the old days .
Already started. Volunteer groups have already been springing up on Facebook/ social media. Anybody who has to self isolate will have plenty of support from an army of volunteers to fetch shopping etc. I’ve signed up to help. Hope you all do.

Other things we can do as volunteers.

Build a group for people who might want to help out however they can; delivering food, offering phone calls for company, volunteering for pet care or walking, collecting prescriptions, doing library runs, etc

Cracking idea 👍

Another thread says that there is a “blitz spirit“ missing. There shouldnt be. We are all in this together - genuinely we can offer support for those who are vulnerable or in need of help.

Frustrating that my Mam is in an Alzheimer's home and we are only to contact by phone. If we are on a 4 Month lockdown I really cannot see her lasting that long with her age and condition but what can we do.

Worrying times for older folk contact with relatives. There will be lots of horror stories that come out of this but it's a bold, brave move for the government to take to reduce the overall number of deaths. We could have done things a lot differently and probably better but as we're in 'fix it' mode it's the right way forward.
