Gorgeous George player/coaching role (play if needed) or 1 year deal or get rid?

Don't you get the point, it is not about sentiment or "jobs for the boys" culture, it is about having people at the club who care for the club
and hopefully instil that mentality into others.
Can't imagine likes of Keane, Saville, McNair even Howson giving a sxxx about our great club

I get the point you are making, caring about the club or wanting to achieve something is irrelevant. If it was I‘d have been manager before now. Woodgate has proved you need far more than that.

George needs to cut his cloth somewhere else for me and if he proves himself on merit fair enough, but till that day happens lets keep the memories we have. I think those talking about a career in the media will be closer to the mark. It will be interesting to see what route he chooses to go down. I don’t see him going down the lower league route as a player, but we’ll see. He may get a one year contract here yet If NW wants him involved.

An amazing servant for the club but I agree, he needs to earn a coaching role on merit (as a coach) and it should be ultimately up to the manager who bring they in to work alongside them (same as any other job in that regard).

I think it's ever more increasingly difficult to find players who care for the club. Unless they've grown up in the area, come through the academy etc most professionals will have zero affinity with the club. It's simply their employer and where the paycheck comes from (again, similar to most other jobs). The power is firmly in the hands of players/agents and I can see the Covid impact being that players have shorter contracts in general, meaning even less incentive for loyalty.

Id give him one year deal (if he agreed to a healthy pay cut). Decent cover for what we currently have and seems to be a great person to have around the club.
Not so much a one year contract as cover, more so to have around the club, within the club structure away from the playing side, he's been great for us but as mentioned he may want to keep playing at a lower level, but how low & will he still be good enough

Honestly, NO! Love the bloke and I think he's been a credit to our football club in so many ways but I think we need to stop this myopic attitude and stop being sentimental.

Quite happy for him to have a coaching role with the kids but as a player he's shot.

He's been a fantastic servant to the club, a breath of fresh air when he talks and I wish there was more like him but his playing days are gone at this level!

A great bloke and fantastic role model, however a coaching role would have to be ability based not on loyalty or because he has been a great servant, we have to be much more clinical with those type of appointments....

How about a PR type of role. There is a distinct lack of communication from the club to the community and fans. Having someone with a passion for the club, the area and with Media skills could create a far better link to the supporters.

Wouldnt put it past the club to offer him a new contract or force him into the next managers backroom team because hes a nice guy, its our usual stance on things like this

Yep, it's usually enough. He's played for the club and that's high on Gibson's list.

I would offer him a one year contract as a bench player and also as club captain and as mentor to the junior players.
I feel he still has a lot to offer the club.

Did hear from someone who knows someone that he was going to be offered a 2 year player coach roll but that photo of him sat alone at the Riverside tells me different.

Is it just me that thinks it's weird he went to sit in the away dugout rather than the home one? Perhaps getting the perspective for when he comes back with his new club?

Best of luck to the fella, whatever happens. If he does go I'm going to miss his one and only trick, which somehow seems to still work 95% of the time even though everyone must know what he's going to do next!

He just sat down to take a look around. I think you're massively over analysing his choice of seat!
