Good night

The "how are you" question is one I really struggle with. I know it is just a greeting, however I want to provide a truthful answer but without bringing the mood down straight away.
I have learned to deflect the question, to something like "still here", which for those who know me means "not great, but lets not go there". When I am depressed the last thing I want to do is to analyse my feelings to give a truthful answer, especially if it is negative.

On the flip side, I have found recently that my stress/anxiety and depression has recently lifted. Due to help and support from some of the people who I work with. I have had an opportunity to thank them and explain that things are feeling better. That felt like a positive thing to do and has certainly been received well by my team.

One thatā€™s worked for me a few times is ā€œI somehow donā€™t think you would really want to know how Iā€™m feeling at the moment so for the purposes of this conversation I shall just say Iā€™m fineā€.

Bit sarcastic I know šŸ˜‚

I just wish people wouldnā€™t ask.

I always say in reply to that, "When you get to my age, I wake up in the morning, put my thumbs up and shout "" Ha Ha, made it".- It usually brings a smile to the person who asked the question. And seeing that smile lifted me up.

Hi AET, I work in Peterborough and have been getting the 'I must get back in the office' talk recently and I'm dreading it. I can always meet up if you like as you would be helping me out as it takes a bit of pressure off the return to work thing. Let me know fella if you fancy it and I'll organise my diary. I occasionally have to go to Waterbeach and Ely which aren't a million miles from you by the sounds of it. On the positive Peterbrough away is an easy enough trip for you as there is no Norwich this season.

Get your avatar blown up and put it on the desk in front of you. That alone is reason enough to stay alive and if it becomes too much in Cambs get yourself back up and walk in that beauty every day.šŸ‘

Nice one Iā€™m in Ramsey. And actually Iā€™ve got a fair few friends and family who are Posh supporters, they are my second team, so itā€™s probably one of the trickiest for me. I usually end up sitting in the home end with someone and finding I have to button my lip. IIRC there was a dreadful 2-2 draw under Strachan when posh were rock bottom a few years agoā€¦.

Yep Clay Bank car park. Used to drive out there with my mate on afternoons off when I was at Teesside Uni then weā€™d go onto Helmsley for a pint and a wander in the bookshop. Happy days.

If anyone reading this is one of those people who immediately say 'How are you' when greeting somebody, please stop. Try saying something else instead, maybe something from this list (careful there are some cheestastic ones here)

Personally I'm a classic NOW THEN, or NOW gadge :)

To the OP I've followed your posts for years, stay on here, you're doing the right thing chatting along with us. New season soon (y)

Trouble with that is If you greet someone with ā€œNow Thenā€ anywhere in the country other than Teesside they think your Jimmy Saville.

Hi AET, I'm trying to reach out to you via private message but you have a limited profile, is there any chance you can drop me a quick message please?

I'm not going to lie to you and pretend I'm some sort of magic solution because I'm not; however I went through a very bad time around 15 years ago for a variety of reasons that all came together at the same time and found myself in a desperate, dark place. I'm thankfully now in a far better place but my experience lives with me still and while I can't be the solution I can certainly try and be a supporting person who has also experienced such darkness.

Take care and please get in touch.

You are a good person Laughing šŸ‘
Most of us are good folks weemoby. I see people being nice and helping each other all the time.

I think most of us have also been affected by mental health issues either directly or indirectly and it is heartbreaking.

I tend to agree with this.

The trouble is the vitriol on some of the threads from certain people. There is a hardcore of a few posters that derail and take over every single thread and post nonsense. Covid threads in particular seem to turn people into judgemental rude (frightened?) idiots. Some of the stuff I read on here over the weekend really depressed me and didnā€™t help my mood at all. Iā€™ve also been ill and there was a thread about private health insurance, which quickly derailed into an anti- Tory pile-on (and for the benefit of doubt Iā€™ve never ever voted Conservative and hope i never will ). Gist of it is Iā€™ve put more than a few on ignore so I donā€™t have to read it.

I'm due to go to Whittlesey either next week or the week after so won't be a million miles away if you do want to have a natter over a coffee.

The ignore function works great to avoid stuff you don't want to see. I've avoided the B word for over a week now. šŸ¤£

I would take you up on that pak - problem Iā€™ve got at the moment Iā€™m not allowed to drive at the minute owing to my dizziness. Iā€™ve mentioned on other threads Iā€™ve been quite ill.

Plus because Iā€™ve not been able to drive for three months the car wonā€™t start because the battery is flat ā€¦.. minor detailā€¦.šŸ˜‚
