Golf GTD

I had one for a year. Its just a Golf with a fancy hybrid bit but its still a good car. I've also had 2 MK7 GTI's and frankly they are the best car I've ever owned. I'm not a fan of diesels in sporty hatchbacks.
I had a mk5 GTI and loved it to be fair, switched it for my Scirocco R about 8 years ago but I'm past that now and want something more sensible and I have been looking at GTIs, the mk7.5s sell so quick!

I preferred the 7, the interior to my mind was just a little bit nicer. A good Mk7 for me is 5 door's, tornado red with a sunroof, DAB, enhanced audio, DSG and the dealer fitted 19" wheels (Pretoria). Heaven :)#

EDIT: Although this white one has piqued my interest

A mate of mine had a 1.5 diesel turbo Nova back when we were young ones. Still to this day it's one of the most batshit quick cars I've ever driven.

You need to experience some faster cars ;)

Even the SR would have been quicker than that in standard form. I remember a race once going towards Saltburn against a Nova GTe and it absolutely spanked me.

I used to drive a golf GT Tdi many years ago for a job I was doing, it was a lovely car one of the nicest I have driven. I do have a thing for sports hatches had a 306 XSI 2l petrol that was quick also had an astra sport turbo and that was awesome to drive. Currently driving a Volvo XC90 2.4 Deisel, no vavavoom on acceleration but is a very nice comfy car and I like the fact there has never been a fatality(in the UK) in an accident of a driver or passenger in a XC90, which helps my anxiety a little.

I have. Quickest I've ever driven was Skyline GTR and a Porsche 911 Turbo. I've been a passenger in a Nova GSi, that was fun.

The diesel Nova was fun though. All that torque in a tin can, lots of smiles.

The scariest thing I have ever done in a car was be taken round toyota's test track in an Aygo by their test driver. It was terrifying.

I can see diesel vehicles having a tougher time from lawmakers in the near future. Higher fuel tax, higher road tax, more restrictions driving in cities. If you take a 3 year old diesel vehicle into London its now £12.50 a go. This type of thing will spread.

We need to reduce carbon emissions and diesels and to leser extent petrol vehicles are in the front line for attack from metro and urban based decision makers.

Quite rightly too.

As we have seen there is a strong and illogical resistance to more environmentally friendly personal transport. So we'll need to increase taxation and prices to discourage diesel and petrol.

Agree, but my personal opinion is that EV's help at the end point, but they are just as environmentally damaging as ICE vehicles, but in a different way. The mining of the materials, transport around the world etc. Its a good interim step, but it shouldn't be considered the endgame.

They aren't as environmentally damaging. That's been disproven.

Please not another thread about EV's!!!!! I was enjoying this thread as I'm due to pick up a 2.0TDI GT at the weekend and was happy that people think highly of them.

Let's keep this to mucky cars eh? :ROFLMAO:
Yep. What about A BMW 1 Series. A 5 door petrol, 120i or something like that. M-Sport pack with sunroof, good car?

We need a diesel for the MPG really. Currently got a 1 litre TSI petrol Karoq and it's bleeding the old bank account dry to the tune of £350 a month on fuel. We did consider a 1 series but the driving position wasn't great for the Mrs and she is boss!

I would love an electric vehicle, but I only had £2000 to get a car with, and it also needed to be a 7 seater and automatic, not to mention I have nowhere to charge it at home even if I did have one. So a 2.4 deisel XC90 or a 2l chevvy captiva where my only available options which suited my needs. So went for the xc90.

Should have gone for the 1.5 mate in hindsight. We do a full tank each month. Granted we both walk to work so it's only used for shopping and socialising.

Fair enough. As a slightly cheaper option on the VW, have a look at the GT TDi. Its very nippy, but less on insurance and fuel than the GTD.

Yeah, that's the one we are going for - quite well equipped for the price! Tried the 1.6 but it was terrible. Sounded like a van!
