Going into the last week of the transfer window.

Why o why do we go into the last few days of most transfer windows with no one actually over the line ? If potential targets are available at the eleventh hour of the last day, why are they not available now ? I realise it's not just us in this situation but the whole transfer window is ridiculous. Is it to allow clubs to generate the best deal for themselves as other teams get more desperate ?

The squad is pretty small, we needed numbers anyway IMHO. We have lost Browne and Hall for most of the season and currently have Tav, Dijksteel and Fry out injured (to whatever extent). Coupled with our obvious weaknesses in quality, finishing, pace and creativity, we need more players.

The flipside of this is obviously we don't know how hard hit Gibbo and the club are with both Covid reducing income and Brexit maybe effecting Bulkhaul too.

I'd assumed (hoped) with us nestled in the top six earlier in the season Gibbo might have thought the risk / reward of at a crack at the PL money tree was worth a punt.

I can only assume our utter lack of activity so far, barely any credible links to players and the likelihood of lockdown continuing will make him take a suck it and see and reassess at the end of the season approach.

I do think we'll get a loan in and that will be it.

If we only sign one player, the squad is worse off in numbers from the start of the season, and leaves us a couple of injuries away from really struggling.

But, I have to assume that despite some horrendous appointments and insane money wasting transfer business Gibbo has our best interests as a club at heart.

I hate the transfer window. They should just make it a week as 90% of it goes down in the last week anyway.

UTB in Warnock we trust 💪

Yes let's hope for some positive activity this week, squad is very bare and will cost us in the weeks ahead.

I think the final word there is pertinent. It really would be a punt. Supposing we scraped the final play-off spot, then I think the odds of gaining promotion are around 20% aren't they? (Of 6th place). I might be wrong, but I think the days of clubs taking that play off / promotion gamble, regarding their finances, are starting to disappear (especially in the current climate).

Different world now,no one knows when fans will be fully allowed back into stasis, I am extremely thankful of Steve Gibson, without him and his money, where would we be?

Yeah, although I think the third place team doesn't go as often as you'd think? Been a while since I looked.

I wasn't advocating chucking £15 million at it. A couple of 6 month loans added to wage budget and a couple of shrewd frees maybe.

Fair enough. I agree that some slightly more expensive but short term loans could be a good investment.

Re the play-off odds, last time I saw them, 3rd was most likely to go up, then 4th, then 6th above 5th. (Presumably to do with 6th placed teams having late runs / momentum). I can't remember the %s though!

It is infuriating that to pay as little wages as possible we can only do business on the very last day. Our two prime targets appear now to have been lost, why didn’t we tie them up at the start of the window? Presumably I have answered my own question. Must be so frustrating for the boss

Perhaps we should be happy to get anyone one given we have limited income coming in

No other clubs are signing anyone are they. I know we needed more than most as we’ve lost a lot of first team players in last 12 months but Steve Gibson is king and Parmo for tea 7 nights a week. UTB!

It feels like the last two windows have gone This way - we agree or are close but can’t close out until the last day, invaribly fail doe whatever reason leaving no time for alternate options. It’s not a criticism just an observation, must be very frustrating fir the manager.

one of the targets could have been vydra and dyche might have thought he could get his own back on us over the gibson situation by pulling it last minute.

NW said that both of them are now needed for cover at their parent clubs and not going out on loan.

You can do all your planning to get the players that will improve our squad but it can take time to agree terms etc. The loaning out club will want to wait until the last minute in case of injuries etc. We have to change our plans now as our defence looks light and we have players in other areas now.

I partially agree with your argument, but take the likes of Roberts, Besic and similar players across the premier league. These players will never fill positions at their own clubs. Loads of premier leagues are awash with unused players

I agree TG so we should have had a list of players that we could attract on loan in case some of them fell through like it has today. Surely we have more options.
