It was like playing on concrete. The away was a blanket of ice, completely treacherous. You’re right, there’s no way that would be played today.

I’ve just watched the goals on YouTube, I think Mohan’s tackle was outside the box but he had absolutely no chance of winning the ball regardless. Though how Liburd got away with that tackle in the first half I have no idea!

Surprised no one's mentioned Frank Quedrue actually, more known for his own goals I guess but still scored a few for us.

Fun fact. In 04/05 he scored as many goals as Ronaldo (5), in fewer games.

Don’t forget Chris Morris. He took a couple of penalties for us. I remember him missing one at Molineux in a 2-0 win under Robbo. The disbelief in the stand when Morris stepped up to take it! And then promptly missed. That was an absolutely brilliant night.

One thing about Morris - he came to my school once and brought Gheorge Hagi’s shirt with him. He swapped it after marking him in that Ireland win against Romania in Italia ‘90. Anyway he kept saying ‘Yorj Harj’ and I remember people just being really confused by it. I’d love to know if that’s how you actually pronounce Hagi’s name.

Like when our headmaster gathered everyone in the hall for assembly to celebrate Boro signing Juninho, but then announced how happy everyone was that we’d signed ‘Jorginho’. Someone corrected him but only after he’d said it about 9 times.

Odd, the things you remember. That was almost 30 years ago.

I never went to that game but remember listening on the radio, I remember the headline the next day in the sun " uwe fuchs wolves "

Steve Vickers scored that game too, bit fortunate but still they all count.

Just watched that on YouTube! He smashed it in from fully 30 yards, though you’d think the Derby ‘keeper would’ve been disappointed with it. I saw that Vickers scored 3 goals in his first 5 or 6 games for us but then nothing for until New Year’s Eve, when he scored another long-range effort at Stoke. I was at that match as well and it was utterly miserable. We lost 3-1 and the Stoke fans above us were throwing bottles of p*ss down onto the Boro fans. A horrible day. I think my Dad had a much better time wandering around the potteries and looking at the nice things.

Think he also scored at Roker Park that season (93/94)

I always had a quid on Ugo at away games. Popped up a few times but I had the time of my life shouting for him at free kicks and corners. RIP big man.

I once had a fiver at 20/1 for Derek Whyte to score a goal away at Luton. We were hammered 5-1 but our Derek got the Boro a consolation goal and me a ton in profit Don't think he scored many more for us if any at all?

Does anyone remember when Miguel Angel Nadal’s name was on the first scorer lists of the betting slips at the Riverside kiosks? I think it was the 95/96 season but could’ve been 96/97, we’d been after him for ages and the Gazette were saying we’d been in Barcelona trying to get it done. And then his name was on a Ladbrokes slip. It was only the once and I can’t remember who we were playing.

I’m so annoyed I didn’t keep hold of one. One of life’s biggest regrets right there.

I'm just happy to have forwards who score for us at present, it seems like that aspect of our game has been severely lacking in recent times
