Glastonbury - the future

Watched McCartney last night and have seen quite alot over the weekend from the festival and it's got me thinking - they are going to struggle with impressive headline acts very soon I think. Taylor Swift is a shoo-in for next for me, as she was announced for 3 years ago but wasn't available this year, but who else is there realistically?

Springsteen and Elton John are on tour during the festival next year and yeah, Springsteen is always brilliant, but I'm not convinced by Elton John.

Even bankers like Coldplay and the Killers, not everyone's cup of tea but always put on a good show, have probably done it enough times now to say they won't be asked back for a while.

They should throw money at ABBA - that would be ace

Sam Fender will be headlining within the next couple of years I reckon. His set looked really good the other day

I can see this. He’s really good live. Another album or two and he’ll have enough hits to do it.

I’d love to see AC/DC in the McCartney slot. Muse would be great. Lady Gaga could pull it off easily too as a pop act who is also very good live.

I don't mind him, but personally think he's quite a way off headlining it... I also couldn't bare the thought of seeing everyone in the crowd wearing Newcastle tops as is usually the case at his gigs

AC/DC is a great shout. Surprised they've never done it before.

A Pulp reunion would be great too. Saw them there in 2011 for a "surprise" slot in The Park and it was brilliant. Not sure Jarvis would do it now though

I'm not sure if it's just me getting old but it seems that the days of the super artist that can fill stadia the world over such as Rolling Stones, U2, Coldplay, The Eagles, Fleetwood Mac etc are coming to end with the new generation of acts and the impact by social media.

Personally, I would love to see Pixies, My Bloody Valentine, Talking Heads, New Order (with Hooky), The Smiths and Oasis but fear I might be asking too much.

When I saw AC/DC at Download a few years ago they brought their own stage. Erected next to the actual main stage. They probably need to get over themselves a bit!

A million times yes for Pulp.

I think Sam Fender is one album away from headlining, so probably 2024 at the earliest. I suspect that Springsteen is very much on the cards for 23 and perhaps Taylor Swift after she was unable to fit it in this year IIRC she was a "probable" for 2020/21? It is likely that the third headliner will be a Grime/RnB act so I'm not qualified to speculate on that.

They had already announced Taylor Swift for 2020 I think it was then it got cancelled by the pandemic.

I will never understand the clamour for Oasis. The last time they headlined they looked like they wanted to be anywhere but there and just went through the motions.

Lady Gaga is a good shout

For Springsteen Glastonbury needs to be 17-18 June. He’s in Sweden the following weekend, with me (!). Weekend before he’s in 🇳🇱 and 🇨🇭

Pop headliner - harry styles, taylor swift , lady gaga

oldie/established /indie headliner bruce springsteen , pink floyd , arcade fire, cold play again please god no

rap or rnb headliner drake, Eminem , rhianna,

He's free on the Friday and Sunday of the weekend of the festival I believe
Gothenburg sat 24, mon 26 and weds 28th. Can’t see them leaving town for a gig in the middle of that/the day before. Would love to be proved otherwise though.

Dont spend millions on BIG headlines acts.

Make it cheaper and more accessible.

Glastonbury has become too white and too middle class.

I think there's a strong chance he'll play the Friday night. He is playing Dusseldorf on Wednesday 21st, then Glastonbury Friday 23rd, then straight on a flight to Gothenburg for Saturday 24th.

Artic Monkeys are on tour next summer too, so I would expect to see them at Glastonbury
