Glastonbury coverage and the F Bombs

It’s 2022 and, ok, maybe not the best year ever.
In the scheme of things not the biggest issue in the world but - timely.

There is a live Glasto feed (6 music et al) going out and guess what? some of the artists are pretty emotional and swear.
Everytime we come back to the studio presenter they do the usual ‘apology if you were offended etc’

I remember driving in France about 6 years ago and mid afternoon on one of their stations there was a song in English with the F word. Not bleeped out, no apology rien.

I’m guessing that is a step to far for conservative (small C) Britain but maybe we can just start.
Generically on R6 - something like ‘we do play music that has swearing in it, if offended please turn off‘
Then we can stop the bleeping.
Then for a bigger audience - an upfront (much like Kalaeidoscopic lights) announcement.

Just some thoughts

I'm dropping F Bombs by the sheer rubbishness of what is being covered on iplayer at the moment.

Wet Leg? Where did this lot come from. Awful!

I dont understand why professional musicians / performers who are performing live on TV / Radio prior to the watershed feel the need to drop the F-bomb. Late night at a sweaty gig is OK, but live on telly at 3 in the afternoon?

I also doubt that many people would be massively offended, but it seems to be rather fking silly.

I'm giving this lot the benefit of the doubt and persevering with their set.

Notes...

She's forgotten lyrics more than once
the songs are pretty dull
Not one person on stage is what I'd call an accomplished musician

But hey, if you can blag your way to a set on a decent stage at Glasto, you've done ok. Just not for me this lot.

Rufus Wainwright was on Pyramid at that time - he was magnificent.

Wet Leg are the new darlings.
Not for me either

Have you thought about it not being a ‘nerd’.!
They may just be happy to express themselves with those words.

Enjoy the rest of the festival

BBC 1Xtra gives a warning before it's shows on a night so I can't see why the Glastonbury coverage didn't have similar.

The band's and artists performing there are doing it for the people who are actually there. I doubt they give a second thought to people watching on telly or listening on the radio.

Plus, further to Finny's point, are people still offended by swear words in 2022?

Agree. If people are offended by someone saying **** in a song they need to have a look at themselves.

No artist should have to change a lyric in their song, but addressing the audience with f bombs in between the songs is ott.
"It's such a F***ing beautiful F***ing night, we're so F***ing honoured to play here, you ******* all feeling F***ing good out there?"
Just get on and play you c**t.

OK for Jarvis to sing this on French TV, doubt it'd ever happen here
