Glastonbury 2025

It's turned into the thing it was originally against when it first launched - it's massively corporate now and just another festival for people to be "seen" at.

(I've only been once, when it was already turning into what it has become as the rise of the internet and smartphones meant everywhere you looked, people were documenting the moment as opposed to living in it. Nothing winds me up more than people doing that at gigs.)
That’s an opinion - fair enough.
There will be circa 200k people and I’m guessing (like a football match or other event) some of them are just there to be seen.
No idea how many - prob insignificant numbers.

I’m not going because I want to be seen (although I will be).
I only know people who go just because they love the opportunity to immerse themselves in an experience unlike any other festival.

Or comedy, or circus events, or the unexpected or fantastic night life or really beautiful settings to relax into.

4000 events but ‘aggggh - the headliners’
Every single year
I have had many years where I have barely been anywhere near the pyramid stage. Others where I have barely left it ... to be honest I quite like this opinion to stay around, the more people that think like that, then maybe it might start to be easier to get tickets again :)

I think it's only fair that when you're paying circa £400 that you want at least one top headliner. Everyone knows there's plenty going on elsewhere at all time though.

Don't agree with the @Juninhoburger comments at all.

From a personal perspective I really don’t care if I want to watch the headliners or not.

Last time (5 years ago) I didn’t watch any of them and had a blast.

exactly that, it was my first time this year, and I wanted to watch one, so I had to endure coldplay because at least they had two good albums 15 years ago. The other two headliners didn't do it at all for me.

I want to experience all the stages, big bands and small, new and old, but if that's this years headliners, I would have felt I'd missed out on a big saturday night event, not that I wouldn't have enjoyed the alternative offerings, but I would have felt something was missing

The idea of spending several days camping, surrounded by thousands of people, lots of noise, smell, possibly rain - I cant think of anything I would less like to do.

Not that it matters because I wouldn't be caught dead within 5 miles of Glastonbury, but The 1975? Ugh.
Very clever, as the 1975 have a song called Ugh! Has it gone over everybody's head or did you not realise. Love the 1975 and Matt Healey even though he is a jawdie!

Its still WAAAAYYYY less corporate than its competitors. It could be so much more so if it chose, but it doesn't.

Of course its changed in part as its grown, but I think its a bit OTT to describe it as massively corporate, even starting with there not ever being a single commercial on any of the big screens just for one.

As for people being people, yeah thats harder to manage. I would agree its become a box ticker destination. I can't stand those people much either.
I was thinking about this the other day. While it's not sold it's soul as much as others in terms of its corporate nature, I think it's taking a massive risk in terms of selling too many tickets / overcrowding.

Before they increased the capacity I remember we got stuck in some mud that we just couldn't get out of and all of a sudden people were falling on top of us. We absolutely sh it ourselves (and I was a holgate regular/in the pit at gigs so don't panic easily) even though it was a Thursday night and wasn't that busy.

In 2023 it was so overcrowded and busy, shutting roads / fields off due to overcrowding. My missus had a nightmare getting back to our van with the kids when the Arctic Monkeys were on and are still a little traumatised (I was too busy enjoying hot chip).

Then last year there were loads of reports about overcrowding, gigs being closed off / people having panic attacks. My mate said it was dangerous at times.

I think it's an accident waiting to happen. I don't think they have had any bad weather since the crowd increase when it's dangerous enough already. I can totally see something happening in the future and if it does the festival will never be the same again, all for a few £££££.

That’s fairly horrific as a set of headliners to be honest. I couldn’t make this year and I’m not that disappointed
For us 40+ rockers it’s not the same of course it isn’t but musical tastes move on and the youth today love the likes of Olivia Rodrigo and Charli XCX. There are 100 stages so I can avoid them and go and see somebody I do like. It’s not just about “the headliners”

There's definitely too many people and they've definitely made some mistakes recently especially in some stage selections that have really exacerbated problems and I would agree been dangerous. I hope lessons continue to be learned.

The money thing is an odd one, they're in a different position to most because they famously pay nowhere near what other festivals pay and that alone is arguably affecting their ability to get the kinds of headliners people crave.

What do they do ? Reduce capacity, charge more (demand exceeds supply something like ten fold). Really sell out and have sponsorships everywhere ?. The big one of course is how much they give to charity, and they're not going to stop that.
