Giro D’Italia Chat (Contains spoilers) 🇮🇹

Too much cycling to watch today.
Giro stage 9, Gent-Wevelgem, Paris-Tours (I’d normally be at the finish) and the start of the Cyclo-Cross Superprestige season. That’s not to mention the MTB Downhill WC (see other thread) if you’re into that.

Enjoyed Gent-Wevelgem (both the women’s and men’s races).
Looked like WVA was nailed on for but appeared to be doing too much to chase down breaks.
Shame about Lizzie D who was close for the women.

And Cav said it was ‘probably his last race’

Question - when they put the stats on and say a rider has spent 8% of the race ‘in the red’
What does that really mean? How would it feel/look for jp public?

i guess when you become such a marked man as WVA you dont give him a free ride back to the break. Make him do the work. LJV have the squad to support him if they chose mind. He needed a Tony Martin (inexplicably supporting a below form Kruyswijk st the Giro).

You've got to feel for him.
One of the greatest sprinters of all time.

I would say the greatest. His form has certainly dipped rapidly from four years ago and that magical Tour when he took 4 stage wins in 2016. He hasn't won a top race since.

Whole of Mitchelson Scott team now withdrawn including Michael Matthews. Also GC hope for LJV Steven Kryswuijk also withdrawn.

Interesting to hear that Gaviria withdrew yesterday after testing positive. Interesting because it is a reinfection (he got it in the UAE in March).

If Tao has any chance of winning he has to attack today - Almeida is defending a slim lead from Kelderman and will track him all day. I suspect the only way Tao can win is if Wilco has a bad day today.
Really looking forward to today’s stage. The Stelvio is one of the great cycling climbs and with snow at the summit it will be spectacular.

Tao riding away from Kelderman and Almeida on the Stelvio. Not a winning gap yet, but it is going out with every switchback.
