Giles is carrick’s Tav situation

Last summer wilder spent all summer trying to find a way of replacing tav our mf engine and the spark of the team.

now 12 months on and it’s carrick now looking to fill the creative void left by giles missing as he created the forward drive.

McGree has successfully replaced Tav... It just took a few months for him to get up to speed / develop into the team. The same could happen here with Engel if/when he comes in.

I agree although I’d argue Hackney solved the tav issue.

The point is it’s the first time he’s had a problem i this to solve as giles was always just there with his drive and supply into the box look at he many of Chubas goals were through giles runs crosses.

It’s a massive miss

He also has to replace Akpom and Archer too. It’s triple the problem, and we haven’t replaced any of them yet. Rogers has potential as a 10, but he’s not going to score anywhere close to 29 goals, in fact I think he’ll struggle for double figures the way it’s going.

I’m highlighting giles as he was key to how we played whereas archer and Chuba did well giles created the momentum and the supply that they thrived on.

He was a crucial part of carricks tactics.

I mean we're missing a lot more than just Giles. No right back. That's down to bad luck. Barlaser isn't close to Howson and doesn't offer anything defensively. We are missing akpoms ability to collect the ball back to goal then turn, as well as his goals. There is still a great deal of potential to have a good season. We need good players though and I fear the club is doing the wrong thing with all these gambles.

Definitely not. We changed formation. Tav played in CM. McGree couldn't do it and still can't.

Just watching the mighty No 26 Giles now against Brighton, gave the ball away after 2 mins, then 4 mins in, didn't pick his runner up, and Brighton missed a sitter!! he is not a good defender. that's why Wolves got rid!!

I agree they are similar situations. Each will have an adequate replacement I'm sure of it the problem is that ir does take a few months to bed in.
But it's impossible to go up if you are waiting for a few months bedding in period each season. Selling/losing players each year doesn't work.

I'd prefer no loans this season. A quiet season with no real stand out stars and build for next season with the same team who are all bedded in and firing together.

We should have signed Giles on day one of the window in my opinion.
We had him all last season so you can't tell me we hadn't discussed wages with him at any point.
This new model is fine as long as you have the spine of a good side in place and you are only needing to replace one or two players who've gone for a profit.
At this point we are not only having to replace arguably 5 of our best players, but also build that spine that'll carry us through this model in the way that Brighton and Brentford did.

I don't disagree, but Wolves wanted a good look at him which delayed matters, allowing Luton to come in. Despite the denial from Giles on twitter (that quickly got deleted), I still think everything fits with the story that the club were confident enough that he was coming to let Bola leave and then things changed quickly. We showed real transfer naivety there, until the contract is signed, anyone is still up for grabs.
